Once again, we focus on a hearing aid from the company Audio Service. This time, it is an early widely distributed behind-the-ear hearing aid named G5 16 Duo Li-Ion. It is a small hearing aid, and in terms of price, it belongs to the premium category. It can be used for mild to moderate hearing losses. Let's take a look at what the interior has to offer:
Hearing comfort
First, we looked at the comfort features. The better these are, the easier and more pleasant the listening experience becomes. In this hearing aid, a solid comfort programming by the audiologist is possible. Traditional noise suppression ensures that uniform, unimportant sounds are slightly reduced. In the G5 16 Duo Li-Ion, ambient noise is processed in such a way that relaxed listening is possible. There is also wind management. We find this very good, as many people enjoy being outdoors. The reduction of wind noise occurs at a moderate level.
There is also a so-called impulse noise filter. It slightly dampens short and loud noises. This is a useful feature, but we would have liked a bit more adjustable depth. Directional hearing often needs a little support for hearing aid users. The G5 16 Duo Li-Ion offers this support confidently and allows for good spatial orientation. The number of frequency channels is very important for good speech-noise differentiation. With 20 channels, this hearing aid is among the best and offers excellent adjustment options.
Strategies based on artificial intelligence are not yet employed in this hearing aid from Audio Service.

Operation & connectivity
Most hearing aids automatically adjust to their environment. However, it is sometimes very practical to be able to make adjustments yourself. After all, the hearing aid does not know how you are currently feeling. We looked at the control options that the G5 16 Duo Li-Ion offers: Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found that on the G5 16 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be disabled if desired. A discreet way to adjust the hearing aid is through the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person you are talking to speaks too softly again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids using voice commands to make them louder or quieter. The idea is really good, but Audio Service has not implemented this feature in this device yet. Don't worry about it; this feature would be nice but is not essential. Tap Control would also have been an interesting function. With that, you can change the function with a quick tap on the ear. However, this feature is not available in the G5 16 Duo Li-Ion yet.
It is very convenient to adjust the hearing aids through the app. There is also a free app for the G5 16 Duo Li-Ion. In our opinion, the range of functions is mediocre but usually sufficient. It's best to try it out in demo mode first. The G5 16 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna, allowing us to enjoy binaural phone calls. This even gives us an advantage over normal hearing individuals. We think that's great and are happy to give it points.

An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its practicality in everyday life. This includes automated functions, as well as robustness and user-friendliness. It is rarely necessary to use the manual hearing programs because the automation already covers many situations. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually get used to the new hearing impressions.
A significant relief in everyday life is the integrated battery. With this, my G5 16 Duo Li-Ion always has enough energy for the entire day, and I no longer have to worry about the batteries suddenly running out in the middle of an event. Even for those with limited dexterity, a battery system is very helpful, as it eliminates the need to insert small button cells.
The G5 16 is almost dust- and waterproof and, with its IP 68 classification, is certainly well protected against external influences.
In addition to a drying function, the charging station also has a fast charging function: If the day becomes longer, you can recharge energy for an additional 6 hours of hearing within 30 minutes.

Everyone appreciates a few extra features, so let's see if we can find some here: Audio Service has integrated a sound generator that plays soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can help distract from the tinnitus and provide some more relaxation.
Unfortunately, there is no option for remote adjustment. Therefore, anyone who needs optimization and wants to change their hearing aid settings will have to visit a hearing professional.
There are no sensors in this G5 16 variant, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, steps are counted throughout the day. As mentioned, this hearing aid does not include this function. The range of functions in the G5 16 Duo Li-Ion is limited to normal hearing, which is perfectly fine. Additional functions like fall alerts or Siri connections do provide good added value, but they are not relevant for good hearing balance.
