The Audio Service G5 8 Duo Li-Ion in review
Once again, we focus on a hearing aid from the company Audio Service. This time, it is a conventional behind-the-ear hearing aid called G5 8 Duo Li-Ion. It is a small-sized hearing aid, and it falls within the affordable price segment. It can be used for moderate hearing needs. Let’s take a look at what the interior has to offer:
Hearing comfort
Hearing comfort determines whether someone enjoys wearing their hearing aids or not. That’s why we first looked at how the hearing aid handles background noise. In this model, introduced to us by Audio Service, we found few options to influence comfort. Of course, noise suppression is integrated to mitigate exhausting background noises. In the G5 8 Duo Li-Ion, a stronger noise reduction would be desirable, but that is reserved for higher-end hearing aids. This hearing aid can detect wind noise, but the reduction is barely noticeable.
The G5 8 Duo Li-Ion also features impulse sound suppression. It reliably detects all short, rattling noises, but the attenuation is rather low. We miss a good room sound, but the automatic focus can be quite helpful in situations with multiple people. With 12 frequency bands, you can achieve a fairly good sound. A passionate musician may not be entirely satisfied with this, but for normal hearing and sound needs, this number is perfectly adequate.
The signal processing is based, among other things, on typical frequency patterns of speech and noise, but artificial intelligence is not yet employed here.
Rating Hearing comfort: 4,2
Operation & connectivity
The majority of functions are activated by this audio service model automatically. However, it can be very useful to expand the range of functions a bit. In our test, we found out what options we have here. The simplest way to operate it is always a button directly on the hearing aid. In this case, it is also available. It can be programmed according to your wishes. Do you want a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for a gradual adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional daily routine or hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. Anyone who wants to keep everything in automatic mode can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. A remote control is available for the G5 8 Duo Li-Ion. It is quite practical, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume up and down option as well as various hearing programs.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but unfortunately, this one from Audio Service cannot yet. It would be practical if fingers are not as mobile anymore or if you simply enjoy smart gadgets. Another option to control the hearing aids is a tap control. You simply tap your fingers on your ear, which triggers a specific function. However, this feature is not available in this Audio Service device.
In the App Store, we also find a suitable application from Audio Service. The app for the G5 8 Duo Li-Ion may not be one of our highlights, but it has everything you need for your hearing systems. You don't need headphones anymore, as it has a wireless option and can transfer sounds from the smartphone directly to your ears – provided the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

Simplicity & security
How does one manage with the hearing aid in everyday life? This is the next aspect we will evaluate. Only if such a device functions easily and uncomplicated can one become accustomed to it. The G5 8 Duo Li-Ion can independently differentiate between quiet and loud environments, but more isn’t included in the program automation. Manual adjustment options are hardly dispensable here. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It increases the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing target is reached. This significantly eases the adjustment to the new sound.
The G5 8 Duo Li-Ion comes with a charger as it has built-in batteries. This is modern, user-friendly, and what we also expect from a contemporary hearing aid.
The hearing aid has been classified in the IP protection class 68. This guarantees comprehensive protection against the ingress of dust. Water also cannot easily harm the hearing aid. It is thus well-prepared for outdoor activities, where it can get wet and dirty. However, do not necessarily go bathing or swimming with the hearing aids. Bath additives or the salt content in seawater can alter the composition and ultimately cause damage.

Audio Service G5 8 Duo Li-Ion:
Extras
Before we reach the end, let's take a look at the extras: Audio Service has integrated a noise generator that plays some soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can help distract from the tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.
Online services are becoming increasingly commonplace. There is often a remote maintenance service available for hearing aids as well. However, Audio Service has not yet provided this for its G5 8 Duo Li-Ion. So, you have to go to the specialist shop every time you want to have your hearing aid reprogrammed. No extra points for that.
There are no sensors in this G5 8 variant, so popular health tracking cannot be offered either. For instance, steps are counted throughout the day. As mentioned, this hearing aid does not have this feature. Other hearing aids already include some extended options like a fall alarm or reminder functions. We do not find that here, and that is not so dramatic, as the normal hearing functions are still the most important.
Rating Extras: 3,3
Conclusion: Audio Service G5 8 Duo Li-Ion
In the overall view, this device ranks in the lower positions and provides us with little more than a solid basic equipment. Of course, one can understand speech with this device, just like with all hearing aids, but not much is done to alleviate the listening effort. Our overall grade: 4.82. Please always consider this grade in relation to the price range of this hearing aid.
