Audio Service launches its G5 6 Duo Li-Ion, a standard hearing aid with either a thick or thin plastic tube, at a lower price point. It is a small hearing aid for mild to moderate hearing needs and is worn behind the ear.
Hearing comfort
In the section on hearing comfort, we look at how a hearing aid handles all the background noises. Comfortable noise management significantly contributes to whether a user likes and regularly wears their hearing aids. In this audio service device, we found only limited options for influencing comfort. The regular noise cancellation is designed to reduce uniform, loud background noise. In the G5 6 Duo Li-Ion, we are not exactly spoiled, but we can live well with basic noise suppression.
At least, the G5 6 Duo Li-Ion includes a so-called bang filter. But is that always sufficient? The G5 6 Duo Li-Ion does have wind reduction, but it doesn't really help outside. The hearing aid can automatically align itself to the speaker opposite, but we don't receive much more support for spatial hearing from the G5 6 Duo Li-Ion. An important point in our tests is the number of frequency bands. This plays a role when it comes to the precise programming of the hearing aids. It is also important for distinguishing between speech and sounds. Here we have 8 bands. There could certainly have been a few more, as this unfortunately limits our ability to make fine adjustments. However, those who do not place such a high value on a brilliant sound experience could get along well with the G5 6 Duo Li-Ion.
Other hearing aids already utilize artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but this strategy is not yet present in the G5 6 Duo Li-Ion.

How can you fully utilize the potential of hearing aids in everyday life? We have found out what access options are available with the G5 6 Duo Li-Ion. First, we discovered a button directly on the hearing aid. This is very useful because it is the simplest and quickest way to make changes. The volume can be adjusted through it, and different hearing programs can also be activated. If you prefer not to make adjustments directly at the ear, you can of course deactivate the button. A remote control is available for the G5 6 Duo Li-Ion. It is quite practical, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume option as well as various hearing programs.
Voice commands are a fairly new way to operate hearing aids. However, we do not have this option in this model yet. This is not a big problem - the main thing is that you can hear well. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a short tap of the finger, without needing to press a button. This feature, however, has not yet been implemented here.
In the App Store, we also find a suitable application from Audio Service. The app for the G5 6 Duo Li-Ion may not be one of our highlights, but it has everything you need for your hearing systems. One of the best features of the hearing aid is the direct streaming function. This turns the hearing aid into a true wireless headphone and receives phone calls and other sounds directly in the ear. A compatible smartphone that includes 2.4 GHz technology is required. The biggest advantage is that you can hear phone calls not only in one ear but in both. Additionally, the sound can be tailored to personal needs.

How does one manage with a hearing aid in everyday life? This is the next aspect we need to evaluate. Because only if such a device operates easily and uncomplicatedly can one become fond of it. When it comes to adapting to changing hearing situations, we have to limit ourselves to the manual options with the G5 6 Duo Li-Ion. An automatic situation recognition would have definitely made life easier, but it is not available here. We grant a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It gradually increases the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This significantly eases the adjustment to the new sound.
The G5 6 Duo Li-Ion is rechargeable and no longer requires hearing aid batteries. This is environmentally friendly, as there are no old batteries to dispose of. At the same time, it is also extremely convenient, as no spare batteries need to be carried. The hearing aids simply go into the charging station in the evening and are ready for use the next morning.
The G5 6 is almost dust- and waterproof and is certainly well protected against external influences with its IP 68 classification.

Finally, let's take a quick look at whether there are any extras: Noteworthy is the tinnitus program. Those who are plagued by annoying ear noises will benefit from this. Pleasant, soft sounds are adjusted to gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus is drowned out by the background noise and is no longer bothersome at all.
Online services are becoming increasingly commonplace. There is also often a remote maintenance service for hearing aids. However, Audio Service has not provided for this with its G5 6 Duo Li-Ion. Therefore, one must go to the specialty store every time one wants to have the hearing aid programmed differently. No extra point for that.
If Audio Service had integrated motion sensors into this hearing aid, individual health tracking could even be possible. However, that is not the case here. These points are lost for the G5 6 Duo Li-Ion in the rating. Other hearing aids already have a few extended options like a fall alarm or reminder functions. We do not find that here, and it is not so dramatic, because the normal hearing functions are still the most important.
