Hearing comfort
The comfort features determine how pleasant hearing is perceived in everyday life. In this hearing aid, solid comfort programming by an audiologist is possible. A classic noise suppression is intended to reduce annoying background noises to a tolerable level. In the G5 16 Ida BT, the surrounding noise is processed in such a way that relaxed listening is possible. For windy situations outdoors, Audio Service has provided wind noise reduction. This is quite useful and is simply part of a contemporary comfort features.
In our test, we also discovered impulse sound control. Short, popping noises are dampened by this. It works fairly well here, but we are not in the top class. Spatial hearing is reliably supported by multifunctional microphones and is definitely practical. One of the most important criteria for evaluating hearing aids is the number of frequency bands. These determine the fine-tuning possibilities. The G5 16 Ida BT has the best conditions for achieving a precise sound result with 20 bands. Even in the following years, one can repeatedly have differentiated settings made here.

Operation & connectivity
The operation options for hearing aids today are as simple or as complex as anyone would like. The basic functions run fully automatically, of course. We wanted to know how users can access the G5 16 Ida BT beyond that. Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the G5 16. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be disabled if desired. A remote control for the hearing aid is available upon request. This allows for effortless volume adjustment. The handling is not only child’s play, but no one will notice that you are adjusting your hearing aids.
We do not yet find the modern form of operation via voice command in the G5 16 Ida BT. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, a tap control might be conceivable, which would trigger a specific function by tapping the ear with your fingers. However, this option is not available in the G5 16 Ida BT.
An app on the smartphone is supposed to simplify operation, and we have found one for the G5 16 Ida BT as well. In addition to the basic functions such as volume and programs, we find a few additional buttons for personalization. Headphones are no longer needed here, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds from the smartphone directly to the ears – provided the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

Simplicity & security
Usability is the next aspect we want to focus on. This is about practicality and the question of how easy and safe it is to live with the hearing aid. In the G5 16 Ida BT, we experienced an effective situational automation that supports our hearing well. This already ensures that we do not have to constantly adjust the hearing aid. A great benefit of this hearing aid is the automatic acclimatization. Especially for those who have been hearing poorly for a long time and are using a hearing aid for the first time, this is a tremendous relief. The volume does not need to be instantly turned up to maximum. One can start at a lower level, and gradually and almost imperceptibly, the amplification approaches the target.
We regret that the G5 16 Ida BT does not have a rechargeable battery, but operates with size 312 hearing aid batteries. This is not particularly problematic, but one should remember to carry spare batteries. On the other hand, this hearing aid does not need to be charged daily; it lasts longer on a single battery.
We had a carefree everyday experience in our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and afterwards took out the hearing aids with wet hands - no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only refers to fresh, clean water and not to foamy bath water or seawater.

Everyone appreciates a few extra features, so let's see if we can find some here: We noticed the tinnitus option. If desired, one can set up a special tinnitus program. This can gently mask the ears with soothing noise to distract from the annoying tinnitus. The sounds can be tailored to personal hearing preferences.
What about remote maintenance? Such online services save a trip to the specialist store, as you can contact an acoustics professional directly through the app. Unfortunately, we did not find anything like this for the G5 16 Ida BT. It's a pity; that would have been a great additional tool.
Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this audio service model lacks the sensors for this feature. It would have been nice to have a few lifestyle functions, but they are not available in the G5 16 Ida BT. Other hearing aids can score with features like language translation or fall alerts, but here it remains at the usual range of functions.
