The Oticon Own 1 ITE HS in review
Oticon presents the Own 1 ITE HS model from the premium segment. It can accommodate both mild and more significant hearing needs. It is a discreet hearing aid that provides good sound quality due to its position in the front part of the ear canal. It is worn in the ear.
Hearing comfort
We all agree that speech understanding is the most important task of hearing aids. From our experience in the hearing acoustics retail business, we also know that listening comfort is at least equally important. It's about processing background noises in such a way that they do not hinder speech understanding, while still creating a natural sound image. In testing the Own 1 ITE HS, the manufacturer provides customers with a comprehensive noise management system. Let's take a look at the individual features:
Of course, this Oticon device has noise suppression, as that has become standard. Noise suppression means that uniform and rather monotonous sounds (e.g., air conditioning, vacuum cleaner...) are reduced. You can be absolutely satisfied with the noise reduction here. On the one hand, it has a remarkable depth of regulation, meaning it can really significantly reduce sounds. On the other hand, it can be adjusted in several levels; after all, you don't always need complete suppression.
Quickly occurring, clattering noises are noticeably and sufficiently dampened, which we find pleasant. For windy situations outdoors, Oticon has provided wind noise reduction. This is quite useful and is simply a part of modern comfort equipment. We have found a proud 24 equalizer bands in the Own 1 ITE HS. In each band, the hearing aid activates its noise management, filtering out disturbing components while retaining important speech elements. Acoustic changes can be targeted and precise. We are very satisfied with this. Especially with sharp or steeply descending hearing curves, such a hearing aid can be very useful. The spatial hearing in this model is almost lifelike. An advanced directional microphone technology allows for good directional hearing and creates a true 3D effect.
Interestingly, artificial intelligence also plays a role here in signal processing. The sound is thus analyzed not only based on typical frequency patterns. Particularly intense, noisy situations are perceived as more realistic and pleasant.

Oticon Own 1 ITE HS:
Operation & connectivity
Most functions are activated automatically by this Oticon model. However, it can be very useful to expand the range of functions a bit. In our tests, we found out what options we have here. The simplest way to operate it is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This model has one as well. It can be programmed according to your preferences. Do you want manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for gradual adjustments of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional daily life or hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. If you prefer to leave everything in automatic mode, you can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. Those who don’t like to touch their ear to adjust the volume will appreciate the optional remote control, allowing for convenient and discreet adjustments to the hearing aid.
For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids louder or quieter using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Oticon is not quite there with this device yet. Don’t worry, this feature would be nice but is not essential. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is tap control. This involves simply tapping your ear with your fingers, which triggers a specific function. However, this option is not available in this Oticon device.
In the App Store, we also find a suitable application from Oticon. The app for the Own 1 ITE HS may not be one of our highlights, but it has everything you need for your hearing systems. Problems with phone calls using a smartphone are a thing of the past with this device. Phone calls, music, and other sounds are transmitted completely wirelessly to the hearing aids. Headphones become unnecessary. We tested the wireless transmission during longer phone calls and while listening to music during sports. Everything worked simply and smoothly. Only a compatible smartphone with 2.4 GHz wireless technology is needed.
Rating Operation & connectivity: 2,0

Simplicity & security
Now let's take a look at how the usage in everyday life looks. Is the handling simple? Do I get a secure device? The situational automation of the Own 1 ITE HS includes almost everything you can experience in daily life. It provides me with the perfect setting at all times without me having to do anything actively. Especially in varying phases, this is extremely convenient and makes me almost forget the hearing aid on my ear. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It increases the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This significantly eases the adjustment to the new sound.
Zinc-air batteries power the Own 1 ITE HS. Changing the batteries could become quite challenging for people with limited dexterity or vision. If you have concerns about this, it might be better to look for a rechargeable model.
We had a carefree everyday life during our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then took out the hearing aids with wet hands - all without any problem. However, the water resistance really only refers to fresh, natural water and not to bubbly bathwater or saltwater.

Extras
