The Audio Service G8 8 CIC in review

Could this hearing aid from the Audio Service program be the right one for you? In our test report on the G8 8 CIC, we have highlighted the key aspects. We get a petite, small hearing aid from the upper-middle class that is worn in the ear. The well-suited wearing position in the ear canal lays the foundation for good hearing success, as the sound has only a very short path to the eardrum. This ensures that all sounds reach the desired location.

The G8 8 CIC provides sufficient amplification for moderate hearing loss.

Hearing comfort

First, we assess the hearing comfort features. What types of sounds does the hearing aid recognize? How does it handle them? Is the hearing aid suitable for a varied daily life? Here with this test device, solid comfort programming by the hearing care professional is possible. As with all hearing aids, we also find the typical background noise suppression here. It is designed to reduce monotonous, noisy ambient sounds to the point where they are less prominent. The G8 8 CIC manages this quite well. In a normal hearing environment, it should certainly work fine.

This device can detect wind and slightly reduce the noise. In our test, we also discovered impulse sound control. Short, sharp sounds are muted with this feature. It works reasonably well here, but we're not in the top class yet. The more bands the equalizer in the hearing aid has, the more reliably it can separate speech from background noise. The sound can also be better shaped. The G8 8 CIC has 16 bands, making it one of the more powerful models. When it comes to spatial hearing, the G8 8 CIC showcases its full strength: the deep seating just before the eardrum allows sound capture like that of a normal ear without a hearing aid. The outer ear naturally directs sound into the ear canal, and the existing head shadow effects are also utilized. Such good 3D hearing could probably not be artificially generated.

An exciting topic in audiology is the use of artificial intelligence, but this audio service model does not yet implement it.

Rating Hearing comfort: 2,7

Operation & connectivity

Digital hearing aids have long evolved beyond just basic amplification functions. Apps and other control options significantly expand their capabilities, which is why we're also looking at this important topic with the G8 8 CIC from Audio Service. Typically, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found that on the G8 8 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be deactivated if desired. A remote control is available for the G8 8 CIC. It's quite handy, fits into your pocket, and offers a volume up-down option as well as various hearing programs. In the test, we did not find any voice control feature. While this function isn't strictly necessary, we would have appreciated it. Tap Control would have also been an interesting feature. With that, you can change the function with a quick tap on the ear. However, this is not available on the G8 8 CIC yet. The G8 8 CIC can be controlled with an app. In our opinion, it is somewhat basic, but you will definitely enjoy the convenience of handling it. There is no connection option to other audio sources provided here. It's a pity because a wireless streaming function would have offered real added value.

Simplicity & security

We continue our test and try out how easy this hearing aid is to handle. After all, it is supposed to simplify the everyday life of hearing aid users and not complicate it further. Typical hearing situations that everyone experiences in their environment are reliably recognized and adjusted through automatic settings. However, for more specific, recurring requirements, it is unavoidable to use the manual hearing programs. Some people find it difficult to get used to, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is an acclimatization manager that gradually introduces us to the required target amplification. The duration can last from a few weeks to several months, and it can be individually adjusted. The individual steps are so small that you hardly notice that there has been an increase in volume.

The CIC from G8 8 operates with 10 disposable batteries; it is not rechargeable. This has its advantages and disadvantages. For the decision "battery or rechargeable," we have provided help here: Rechargeable hearing aids or batteries: 6 criteria for your decision.

We had a carefree everyday life in our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and afterwards took the hearing aids out with wet hands - all no problem. However, the water resistance really only pertains to fresh, natural water and not to soapy bathwater or seawater.

Extras

Before we come to the end, let's take a look at the extras: The tinnitus program is definitely worth mentioning. Anyone plagued by annoying ear noises will benefit from it. Pleasant, soft sounds are adjusted to gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus fades into the background noise and is no longer noticeable.

Online services are becoming increasingly commonplace. There is also often a remote maintenance service for hearing aids. However, Audio Service has not provided this option for its G8 8 CIC yet. Therefore, one has to go to the specialist shop every time they want to have their hearing aid programmed differently. No extra point for that.

This G8 8 variant does not have sensors, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, daily steps are counted. As mentioned - this hearing aid does not have this function on board. This Audio Service hearing aid has no additional lifestyle options. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you don't need that for good hearing. It would have just made the product a bit cooler.
