We are once again in the testing laboratory, and this time we have a product from Beltone in our hands or rather in our ears. The full product name is Serene 17 Rechargeable ITE, and it is classified among the high-end devices. Due to its optimal position in the front of the ear canal, it has good acoustic properties. The Serene 17 Rechargeable ITE is worn in the ear, and it is a small hearing aid for mild to profound hearing losses.
Hearing comfort
In the section on hearing comfort, we take a look at how a hearing aid handles all the surrounding noise. Comfortable noise management significantly contributes to whether a user likes and regularly wears their hearing aids. With this Beltone device, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive sound management. The standard noise suppression serves to soften uniform, hissing background noises. In the Serene 17 Battery ITE, the manufacturer has not held back and provides us with a multi-level, effective noise reduction.
Impulse sounds occur very often in everyday life. There's the dishwasher that needs to be unloaded, or the keys that are placed on the table. The Serene 17 Battery ITE features strong impulse sound management that makes these sounds bearable. The hearing comfort package also includes wind noise suppression. It works very reliably, and we wouldn’t want to do without it. Normal hearers usually don't think about spatial hearing. With this hearing aid, we don’t have to either. A sophisticated system of directional microphones and bilateral wireless networking generates a 3D effect that comes very close to natural hearing. Those who want a hearing aid with plenty of flexibility will find the Serene 17 Battery ITE well-suited. It has 17 frequency bands, providing excellent adjustment options. The sound can be modified according to individual preferences, even after several years.
Sometimes we encounter hearing aids that successfully process data using artificial intelligence, but that is not yet the case with this device.

Operation & connectivity
Buttons, switches, controls ... or would you prefer an app? Control elements can significantly expand the functionality of hearing aids. Is there something like that in the Serene 17 Battery ITE? We took a look. The simplest way to operate is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has it too. It can be programmed according to your wishes. Do you want a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for gradual adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional life or hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. If you want to keep everything in automatic mode, you can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. The small remote control, which is available optionally, is very practical. For us, it's one of the most convenient ways to adjust the hearing aid's volume or switch to another hearing program. No one notices it; reaching for the ear is not necessary.
We are always pleased when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional feature. For example, we would have liked to see voice control at this point. But it is currently not available in the Serene 17 Battery ITE. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is a tap control. You simply tap your ear with your fingers, which triggers a specific function. However, this feature is not available in this Beltone device.
The operation of the Serene 17 Battery ITE is relatively straightforward through the associated app. It comes with a lot of additional functions and has quite impressed us. We particularly enjoyed using the equalizer during testing. As a normal hearing person, you might feel envious, as such features are not yet found in wireless headphones. For our digital daily life, a streaming option would be nice. The device at hand fulfills our wish and comes with a 2.4 GHz wireless module. This allows for phone calls and sounds to be sent directly from the smartphone to the hearing aids.

Für das nächste Kapitel haben wir das Hörgerät einem kleinen Praxistest unterzogen. Wir wollten wissen, ob es sich im Alltag leicht verwenden lässt und unkompliziert ist. Richtig gut schneidet das Serene 17 Akku ITE bei der Situationserkennung ab. Wer sich eine umfassende und leistungsstarke Vollautomatik im Hörgerät wünscht und möglichst wenig selber verstellen will, ist hiermit bestens bedient. Die adaptiven Algorithmen entwirren die einzelnen Schallereignisse in der Umgebung und präsentieren die Klangkulisse klar und präzise. Über den integrierten Eingewöhnungsmanager freuen wir uns sehr. Er hebt im Hintergrund die Lautstärke des Hörgerätes in winzig kleinen Schritten an, bis unsere Zielverstärkung irgendwann erreicht ist. Wir können uns entspannt und ganz allmählich an die neuen Höreindrücke gewöhnen.
Das Serene 17 Akku ITE ist aufladbar und benötigt keine Batterien mehr. Das ist nicht nur umweltfreundlich, sondern auch in der Handhabung sehr bequem und befreit mich von der Last, ständig an Batterienachschub zu denken.
Wir werfen noch einen Blick auf die Robustheit des Gehäuses und entdecken im Datenblatt die Schutzklasse IP 68. Damit kann Staub gar nicht erst eindringen, und auch Wasser wird erst nach längerem Untertauchen gefährlich. Ein Schutz gegen Berührungen gehört auch mit dazu.

Die wichtigsten Faktoren haben wir in unserem Testbericht abgearbeitet. Bevor wir enden, halten wir nach ein paar Extras Ausschau: Ein spezielles Tinnitusprogramm ist im Serene 17 Akku ITE auf Wunsch programmierbar. Damit können stimulierende, angenehme Geräusche generiert werden, die vom Tinnitus ablenken, wenn er mal wieder besonders stark ist. Das finden wir sehr nützlich und vergeben gerne Extrapunkte.
Spannend finden wir den Fernwartungsdienst, den man in Anspruch nehmen kann. Wenn man keine Gelegenheit hat, zum Hörakustiker zu fahren, kontaktiert man ihn stattdessen über die App, beschreibt kurz sein Hörproblem und erhält anschließend ein Datenpaket mit einer neuen Hörgerätkonfiguration.
