Bernafon presents the Alpha 3 ITC model, which falls into a still moderate price category. It can compensate for both mild and more severe hearing needs. It is a slightly visible hearing aid that provides good sound quality due to its optimal position at the front of the ear canal. It is worn in the ear.
Hearing comfort
As important as speech understanding is, so is listening comfort. After all, we want our environment to sound as realistic and pleasant as possible. So let’s take a look at noise management: In this model offered by Bernafon, solid comfort programming by the audiologist is possible. Naturally, noise suppression is integrated, aimed at softening demanding background noises. The Alpha 3 ITC is not exactly the most powerful option, but in everyday life, the noise suppression should suffice. We are happy that the Alpha 3 ITC includes wind reduction.
Our test discovered impulse noise suppression. It slightly softens loud, sudden noises. The device recognizes whether the microphones should transmit everything or focus forward. This can help in conversation situations, but it doesn’t replace true spatial hearing. With 14 frequency bands, you can achieve quite a good sound. A passionate musician may not be completely satisfied with it, but this number is completely sufficient for normal hearing and sound needs.
Understanding speech in noisy environments is always a challenge. Bernafon addresses the issue with the use of artificial intelligence. The result is brilliant and clear speech transmission, while background noises still come through realistically loud to the ear.

Operation & connectivity
The operating options for hearing aids today are as simple or as complex as anyone would like. The basic functions are of course fully automatic. We wanted to know how a user can additionally access the Alpha 3 ITC. There is a button directly on the hearing aid. With it, you can adjust the volume or activate additional listening programs. It can be programmed entirely according to customer preferences. Usage is of course optional. Upon request, there is a remote control for the hearing aid. This allows for effortless volume adjustment. The handling is not only child’s play, but also no one will notice that you are adjusting your hearing aids.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled via voice, but this one from Bernafon unfortunately cannot yet. It would be practical when fingers are not as nimble anymore or if one simply likes smart gadgets. Touch control of the hearing aids with a simple tap is not available in this Bernafon model, as it would have required specific sensors in the housing.
An app on the smartphone is supposed to simplify operation, and we have found one for the Alpha 3 ITC as well. In addition to the basic functions like volume and programs, we find a few more buttons for personalization. A streaming option would be great for our digital everyday life. The device at hand fulfills our wish and comes with a 2.4 GHz wireless module. This allows you to send phone calls and sounds directly from the smartphone to the hearing aids.

Of course, we are also interested in how quickly one can get used to the Alpha 3 ITC and how easy daily use is. The Alpha 3 ITC automatically accesses the most important hearing settings, making daily use easier. However, those who frequently experience changing acoustic environments should have the manual additional programs configured. Some people find it difficult to adapt, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to adjust to the new volume. There is an acclimatization manager that gradually guides us to the required target amplification. The period can last from a few weeks to several months, which is individually adjustable. The individual steps are so small that you hardly notice that there has been a volume increase.
We regret that the Alpha 3 ITC does not have a rechargeable battery, but operates on hearing aid batteries size 312. This is not particularly problematic, but one should remember to carry spare batteries. On the other hand: This hearing aid does not need to be charged daily; it runs for a long time on a single battery.
With IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand various adverse influences. Dust cannot penetrate, it withstands prolonged submersion in water, and it is also protected against contact.

Abschließend wollen wir wissen, ob das Hörgerät vielleicht noch Specials anbietet: Auf jeden Fall erwähnenswert ist das Tinnitusprogramm. Davon werden all jene profitieren, die von lästigen Ohrgeräuschen geplagt werden. Angenehme, leise Geräusche werden so eingestellt, dass sie den Tinnitus sanft umspielen. Am Ende versinkt der Tinnitus in der Geräuschkulisse und fällt gar nicht mehr störend auf.
Einen sehr guten Zusatznutzen erhält man durch das Angebot der Fernwartung. Über die App kann man mit seinem Hörakustiker Kontakt aufnehmen und sein Hörproblem schildern. Der kann die Einstellung entsprechend verändern und über die App in die Hörgeräte laden. Für Menschen mit wenig Zeit oder einem weiten Anfahrtsweg ist das ein toller Service.
Hätte Bernafon Bewegungssensoren in dieses Hörgerät integriert, dann könnte sogar ein individuelles Gesundheits-Tracking erfolgen. Das ist hier aber nicht der Fall. Diese Punkte gehen dem Alpha 3 ITC in der Wertung verloren. Mit Geräten wie diesem aus dem Hause Bernafon werden unsere Testberichte immer länger, denn nun gibt es auch noch intelligente Zusatzfunktionen. Verschiedene Assistenten erleichtern Ihnen das Leben und werden in der App personalisiert. Zwingend nötig ist das nicht, macht aber riesig Spaß. Dafür gibt es eine gute Bewertung von uns.
