Here we have a very small hearing aid from a good, mid-range quality level that is worn in the ear. The natural, cleverly chosen fit directly in the ear canal lays the foundation for good hearing success, as the sound has only a very short path to the eardrum. This ensures that all sounds arrive exactly where we want them.

The Encanta 100 CIC provides sufficient amplification for moderate, stronger, and fluctuating hearing losses.

Hearing comfort

In our test, we typically start with the analysis of comfort features. A comfortable sound is characterized by a mix of speech and background noise that is realistic and as pleasant as possible. Various electronic tools take care of all the sounds. With the Encanta 100 CIC, solid comfort programming is possible through the audiologist. One of the noise tools is noise suppression, which is supposed to dampen things like traffic noise, refrigerator hum, or PC cooling fan noise. Here, we had hoped for a little more control depth, but - well.

 

There is also impulse sound suppression in the Encanta 100 CIC. It reliably detects all brief, clattering sounds, but the dampening is rather minimal. Wind noise is another special topic. Anyone who has been outdoors with older hearing aids knows what we are talking about. However, with the Encanta 100 CIC, this is not an issue due to its design. The wind does not get to the microphones properly because they are located in the ear canal. Spatial hearing would be another important point, but not much can be said about that for this Bernafon hearing aid. There are no special functions that can support or replicate spatial hearing in any way. This should especially be considered when one is often outdoors in public spaces. A few more frequency channels would be desirable, but the existing 14 channels are already quite effective for use.

 

Interestingly, artificial intelligence also plays a role here in signal processing. The sound is therefore not only analyzed based on typical frequency patterns. Particularly intense, noisy situations are perceived as more realistic and pleasant.

There is a button directly on the hearing aid. With it, you can change the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed completely according to the customer's wishes. Of course, use is optional. Is the Encanta 100 compatible with a remote control? Unfortunately not; there is no suitable device available here.

The modern method of operation via voice command is still not found in the Encanta 100 CIC. If there were sensors in the hearing aid, a tap control could be possible, which would trigger a specific function by tapping the ear with your fingers. However, this option is not available in the Encanta 100 CIC.

We searched in the app store for an app for further adjustments in vain; we had hoped for something different. A connection option to other audio sources is not provided here. It's a pity, as a wireless streaming function would have offered real added value.

Simplicity & security

We continue our test and try out how easy this hearing aid is to handle. After all, it should simplify the everyday life of hearing aid users and not complicate it further. We receive relatively little support from the automatic program in the Encanta 100 CIC. Without a few individual hearing programs, one might not get by in a lively everyday life. Very important to us in terms of simplicity is the support during the acclimatization phase. Especially after having heard poorly for many years, it can sometimes be difficult to perceive everything at a natural volume. Our test device has an acclimatization manager that helps us with very small volume adjustments throughout the adjustment phase. After a few weeks or months, we have then reached the calculated amplification level.

The Encanta 100 CIC is not rechargeable. It continues to get its energy from disposable size 10 batteries, which need to be changed every few days.

We also take a look at the sturdiness of the casing and discover in the data sheet the protection class IP 68. This means that dust cannot penetrate at all, and water only becomes dangerous after prolonged submersion. Protection against contact is also included.

It’s nothing more than a distraction maneuver, and it works remarkably well. The tinnitus fades into the general noise and is no longer bothersome. It’s a simple but effective tool and earns extra points from us.

In these mobile times, a remote maintenance service via an app would be very helpful. This would allow you to conveniently create a new hearing aid programming from home. Unfortunately, this service is not available for the Encanta 100 CIC. So, for changes, you still have to visit the specialist store.

There are no sensors in this Encanta 100 variant, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, steps are counted throughout the day. As mentioned - this hearing aid does not have this function onboard. It would have been nice to have a few lifestyle features, but those are not available in the Encanta 100 CIC. Other hearing aids can score points with language translators or fall alerts, but here it remains with the usual functionality.
