Hearing comfort
The hearing comfort determines whether someone likes to wear their hearing aids or not. That’s why we first looked at how the hearing aid handles background noise. In this model presented by Bernafon, we found few options to influence comfort. Of course, noise suppression is integrated to mitigate annoying background sounds. In the Viron 5 MNR T R, we hoped for a bit more depth of control, but – well. In the Viron 5 MNR T R, there is wind reduction, but it doesn't really help outdoors.
At least, the Viron 5 MNR T R includes a so-called bang filter. But is that always sufficient? The device recognizes whether the microphones should transmit everything or focus forward. This can help in conversational situations, but it does not replace true spatial hearing. The Viron 5 MNR T R doesn’t have many adjustable equalizer bands, but the 12 should be enough for a good hearing result.
Other hearing aids already use artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but this strategy is not yet present in the Viron 5 MNR T R.

Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found it on the Viron 5 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be disabled upon request. We do like the small remote controls, and for this model, we found one. This allows discreet adjustments to the volume or sound.
We do not yet find the modern form of operation via voice command in the Viron 5 MNR T R. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is tapping control. To do this, you simply tap your fingers on your ear, which triggers a specific function. However, this possibility is not available in this Bernafon device.
It is very convenient to adjust the hearing aids via the app. There is also a free app for the Viron 5 MNR T R. In our opinion, the functionality is average, but usually sufficient. It is best to try it out in demo mode beforehand. The Viron 5 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and allows for binaural phone calls. This even gives us an advantage over normal-hearing individuals. However, those who frequently experience changing acoustic environments should have the manual additional programs configured. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually get used to the new hearing impressions.
The Viron 5 MNR T R is rechargeable and no longer requires batteries. This is not only environmentally friendly but also very convenient to handle and frees me from the burden of constantly thinking about battery replacements.
With IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand a variety of adverse influences. Dust cannot penetrate, it can endure prolonged submersion in water, and it is also protected against contact.
