The Hansaton Wave 675 UP in review
Today we have a conventional hearing aid called Wave 675 UP on our test agenda. The manufacturer Hansaton has designed it for moderate to severe hearing losses and for wearing behind the ear. In terms of price, it is a model from the more affordable price segment. So, let's take a look:
With the Wave, Hansaton offers a hearing aid in the entry-level segment that ensures a pleasant listening experience through simple technology and solid performance.
Hearing comfort
In our test, we typically start with the analysis of comfort features. A comfortable sound is characterized by a mix of speech and background noise that is realistic and as pleasant as possible. Various electronic tools take care of all the sounds. In the Wave 675 UP, we find only the absolute essentials when it comes to hearing comfort. One of the noise tools is noise suppression, which is supposed to dampen sounds like traffic noise, refrigerator humming, or computer fan noise. Here, only a very slight noise reduction is included.
According to the manufacturer, impulse noise suppression is integrated, but we could hardly feel it. Unfortunately, this hearing aid does not yet have wind noise suppression. What a shame. We are missing natural spatial hearing with this device, which certainly creates a few difficulties in daily life. We can no longer reliably identify directions. Anyone who also has limited vision should consider choosing a different hearing aid. A solid basis for programming the Wave 675 UP is provided by the 12 equalizer bands. As sound junkies, we would wish for a few more, but for the typical situations we encounter in our daily lives, it is possible to create a fairly reasonable sound profile from them.
An exciting topic in audiology is the use of artificial intelligence, but this Hansaton model does not yet apply it.

Operation & connectivity
Sometimes it's not so bad if you can adjust the volume of the hearing aid a little, e.g., when the neighbor is loudly mowing the lawn or when someone speaks to you very quietly. Many models therefore have special control features. You can use them, but you don't have to. We looked into this with the Wave 675 UP: First, we discovered a button directly on the hearing aid. This is very practical, as it is the easiest and quickest way to make a change. The volume can be adjusted through it, and different hearing programs can also be activated. If you prefer not to adjust anything directly at the ear, you can of course deactivate the button. We really like the small remote controls, and we've found one for this model. This allows you to discreetly make small changes to the volume or sound.
In our test, we did not find any option for voice control. This function is not necessarily needed, but we would have appreciated it nonetheless. In addition to buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids also have tap control. This means you can simply tap your ear briefly, and the device will switch mode. However, we do not have this here at Hansaton, as it would have required very specific sensors.
As is common today, we also find a smartphone app for the Wave 675 UP. This app includes solid basic functions and adds a few goodies on top. The Wave comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and allows us to enjoy binaural phone calls. This even gives us an advantage over normal-hearing individuals. We think that's great and are happy to award points.
Through hands-free telephony, hearing aid users can make calls directly through their hearing aids, which increases comfort and eliminates the need to hold the phone.
Rating Operation & connectivity: 2,0

Hansaton Wave 675 UP: A partner microphone allows hearing aid users to significantly improve speech understanding in noisy environments by transmitting the speaker's voice directly to the hearing aids. This facilitates conversations over greater distances or in loud situations, such as in restaurants or at meetings. Additionally, it provides more flexibility and comfort, as the hearing aid user can communicate clearly regardless of background noise.

Simplicity & security
We continue the test with a brief assessment of how easy everyday use will be. Is it complicated? Do I need to pay special attention? Or do I not need to consider anything further? Unfortunately, the Wave 675 UP cannot provide automatic situation detection; we have to make manual adjustments to hear well in different acoustic situations. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It raises the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing target is reached. This makes it significantly easier to get used to the new sound.
The Wave 675 UP is not rechargeable; it operates on hearing aid batteries. Unlike rechargeable batteries, it does not need to be charged daily, but the size 675 battery needs to be replaced after a few days.
The data sheet certifies that the Hansaton device has a certification according to IP protection class 68. This makes it one of the most durable hearing aids on the market. Dust stands no chance, and water does not penetrate the casing unless it is submerged deeper than 1.5 m. Still, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, changes the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. However, in everyday life, you can behave completely carefree.
With the integrated T-coil, hearing aid users can seamlessly connect to induction systems used in theaters or public buildings, significantly improving sound quality in noisy environments.

Extras
Before we come to the end, let's take a look at the extras: Manufacturers often implement a tinnitus program in their hearing aids to somewhat alleviate the annoying ringing. However, Hansaton has opted out of this in this model. This is unfortunate, as it would be a real added benefit for many people.
A clever tool is the integrated remote maintenance service. Almost everyone has a smartphone, and time is a scarce resource. Therefore, such a remote maintenance service is absolutely appropriate. If someone needs a new programming for their hearing aids, they can easily contact the audiologist via the app and describe their hearing wishes. Through a cloud service, the professional can then send a custom setting as a data package to the app. From there, it is loaded onto the hearing aid and can be tried out immediately. This definitely deserves extra points in our test.
Some hearing aids can track certain health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately do not have in the Wave 675 UP. The hearing aid also forgoes additional features such as special assistance systems, a fall alarm, or language translators. This is not a major issue, as it does not affect the important hearing functions.
If there are no motor restrictions against this design, ex-ear hearing aids could be an interesting option for you. They allow for optimized sound transmission as the speaker is placed directly in the ear canal, avoiding sound tube losses: 3 important advantages of ex-ear hearing aids
