This test report is about the Jet PX 1 ITC. It was developed by Oticon and covers moderate, stronger, and changing hearing losses. This variant is worn in the ear. Jet PX 1 ITC is a rather small hearing aid in a still moderate price category. The clean sound transmission is achieved by the optimal position in the front of the ear canal.

Hearing comfort

A good speech understanding is a given in contemporary hearing aids. At least as important is the hearing comfort. Only when the ratio of speech transmission to the level of background noise is right can hearing be perceived as pleasant. That's why we take a look at the comfort features: With the Jet PX 1 ITC, we found very few options for influencing comfort. Normal ambient noises like street noise, vacuum cleaner sounds, or the noise from a fan are to be suppressed by a classic noise cancellation. In this Oticon hearing aid, there is a rather simple noise suppression, which is sufficient in normal situations. However, it's definitely worth looking at higher technology levels.

An impulse sound filter is also said to be implemented. It dampens short, rattling noises, but only to a very slight extent; it's not really helpful. This hearing aid can recognize wind noises, but the attenuation is hardly noticeable. We miss a good spatial sound, but the automatic focus can be quite helpful in situations with multiple people. A solid basis for programming the Jet PX 1 ITC is provided by the 14 equalizer bands. As sound junkies, we do wish for a few more, but for the typical situations we encounter in our daily lives, a reasonably good sound profile can already be created from them.

The signal processing is based, among other things, on typical frequency patterns of speech and noise, but artificial intelligence is not yet in use here.

Operation & connectivity

Digital hearing aids have long evolved beyond just the basic amplification function. Apps and other operating options significantly expand their functionality, which is why we are examining this important topic with the Jet PX 1 ITC from Oticon. There is a button directly on the hearing aid. This allows you to change the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed according to customer preferences. The use of this button is, of course, optional. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very practical. For us, it is one of the most comfortable ways to adjust the hearing aid volume or switch to another hearing program. No one notices it; there's no need to touch your ear.

Voice commands are a fairly new way to operate hearing aids. However, this feature is not yet available in this model. That's not a big deal - the main thing is that you can hear well. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a simple tap of the finger, without having to press an extra button. This feature has not yet been implemented here.

In the App Store, we also find a suitable application from Oticon. The app for the Jet PX 1 ITC is not one of our highlights, but it has everything you need for your hearing systems. We really enjoyed the direct, wireless streaming. This means that calls from your smartphone can be transmitted to the hearing aids without any additional accessories. This turns the hearing aid into the perfect hands-free system or wireless headphones. Listening to music or watching and hearing videos is incredibly comfortable.

Simplicity & security

Now let's briefly talk about everyday usability. Is the Jet PX 1 ITC user-friendly and easy to handle? Does it have water protection? Here are our findings: We don't necessarily experience easy, comfortable listening with the Jet PX 1 ITC. One can manage in a quieter everyday setting, but as soon as there's a more varied listening environment, manual adjustments are unavoidable. Some people struggle with the adjustment, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is an acclimatization manager that gradually brings us to the required target amplification. The duration can range from a few weeks to several months, and it is individually adjustable. The individual steps are so small that you hardly notice that there has been an increase in volume.

We regret that the Jet PX 1 ITC does not have a rechargeable battery but is powered by hearing aid batteries size 10. This is not particularly problematic, but one should remember to carry spare batteries. On the other hand, this hearing aid does not need to be charged every day; with one battery, it lasts for a long time.

We had a carefree everyday experience in our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then took the hearing aids out with wet hands - it was no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to soapy bath water or saltwater.

Extras

Sometimes, there are additional features in hearing aids that can be quite useful. Let's see how it is with this Oticon device: Oticon has integrated a sound generator that plays soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can help distract from the tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.

We find the remote maintenance service exciting, which can be utilized. If one doesn't have the opportunity to visit the hearing aid specialist, they can contact them instead through the app, briefly describe their hearing problem, and then receive a data package with a new hearing aid configuration. If it sounds good, they can upload it to their hearing aids.

Personal health is an important topic, which is why Oticon provides its customers with a great feature: health tracking. For example, physical activity is logged over a period of time. Sensors collect this data and then present it graphically in the accompanying app. It would have been nice to have a few lifestyle features as well, but those are not available in the Jet PX 1 ITC. Other hearing aids can score with translation features or fall alarms, but here it remains with the usual range of functions.

With a final grade of 2.96, this model holds its ground in the mid-range. It has a quite decent comfort equipment on board, which is sufficient for typical everyday moments and creates a satisfying listening experience.
