The Oticon Own 3 ITE HS in review
This test report is about the Own 3 ITE HS. It was developed by Oticon and covers moderate, severe, and fluctuating hearing losses. This variant is worn in the ear. The Own 3 ITE HS is a small hearing aid from a still moderate price category. We achieve clear sound transmission through the direct placement in the ear canal.
Hearing comfort
Hearing aids are meant not only to bring speech to the ear but also to sound pleasant. So let's first look at the comfort features. What types of noise does the hearing aid recognize? Are they dampened or transmitted unchanged? Is the hearing aid suitable for a lively daily life? Here, with this test device, a solid comfort programming by the hearing care professional is possible. As with any hearing aid, it also features typical noise suppression. This is intended to reduce constant, rumbling background noises to the point where they no longer dominate. With the Own 3 ITE HS, we're not necessarily dealing with a high-performance variant, but in most hearing situations, the noise suppression should be sufficient.
There is also wind management. We find this very good because many people enjoy being outdoors. The reduction of wind noise occurs at a medium level. Impulsive noises are identified and reliably cushioned. This is noticeable, for example, with typical kitchen noises, or when crinkling paper or typing on a keyboard. The Own 3 ITE HS is one of the good hearing aids, at least in terms of the number of frequency bands. With 18 bands, it is well equipped for precise adjustment to personal sound preferences. The adjustable microphones help to recognize certain directions and can also aid in noise cancellation, but the spatial sound was not very natural.
Speech in a noisy environment is always a challenge. Oticon addresses this issue with the use of artificial intelligence. The result is brilliant and clear speech transmission, while the background noises continue to come through realistically loud to the ear.

Oticon Own 3 ITE HS:
Operation & connectivity
Digital hearing aids have long evolved beyond the basic amplification function. Apps and other control options significantly expand the range of features, which is why we are also looking at this important topic with the Own 3 ITE HS from Oticon. There is a button directly on the hearing aid. With it, you can adjust the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed according to customer preferences. The use is, of course, optional. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very practical. For us, it's one of the most convenient ways to turn the hearing aid up or down or switch to another hearing program. No one notices it, and there's no need to touch the ear.
We are always pleased when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional feature. For example, we would have liked to see voice control here. However, there is currently none in the Own 3 ITE HS. Besides buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids also have tap controls. This means you can simply tap your ear briefly, and the device will switch. However, we don't have that here at Oticon, as it would have required very specific sensors.
The app is definitely very useful. Anyone with a smartphone should download it. Although the app is not one of our favorites, it is still a helpful addition to the Own 3 ITE HS. The Own 3 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and allows us to enjoy binaural phone calls. This even gives us an advantage over normal hearing individuals. We think that's great and are happy to give it points.

Simplicity & security
An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its practicality in everyday life. This includes, for example, automated functions as well as robustness and user-friendliness. The Own 3 ITE HS features a solid everyday automation that is likely sufficient for a quieter life. However, for more complex hearing environments, we recommend the additional manual programs. Very important to us in terms of simplicity is the support during the acclimatization process. Especially after having heard poorly for years, it can sometimes be difficult to perceive everything at a natural volume. In our test device, there is an acclimatization manager that helps us with very small volume adjustments throughout the adjustment phase. After a few weeks or months, we then reach the calculated amplification level.
Unfortunately, the Own 3 ITE HS is not equipped with a battery, so regular size 312 batteries are needed for operation.
The Own 3 is nearly dust- and waterproof and, with its IP 68 rating, is certainly well protected against external influences.
Rating Simplicity & security: 2,3
Extras
At the end of our test report, there is still a little space for the extra features: A special tinnitus program can be programmed in the Own 3 ITE HS upon request. This allows for the generation of stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from the tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and are happy to award extra points.
We really like the possibility of remote adjustment. This is very helpful when you only want to change something small in the hearing aid settings but do not want to drive to the audiologist. Instead, you can make contact via the app, and the hearing professional will send back an adjusted data package in the same way.
There are no sensors in this Own 3 variant, so popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, daily steps are counted. As mentioned - this hearing aid does not have this function. We were particularly impressed with the additional features that are included in the Own 3 ITE HS. Various assistants support your daily life beyond hearing and can be configured in the app. Such hearing aids are hard to part with. By the way: These lifestyle functions are often still being developed, so it may be that they change with updates.
