The Oticon Own 4 ITC in review
What listening comfort does the Own 4 ITC offer? How easy is it to use? Is it worth purchasing? You can find answers to these questions in our review of this hearing aid from Oticon. First, the basics: It is worn in the ear, and due to its quite comfortable position at the front of the ear canal, sound can easily travel toward the eardrum. This is important because that's the only way to produce a really good, broad-band sound.
The Own 4 ITC is a small hearing aid from the upper mid-range that can cover almost every hearing need. Read more details:
Hearing comfort
First, we looked at the comfort features. The better they are, the easier and more pleasant the listening experience becomes. In this hearing aid, we found few options for comfort influence. The traditional noise suppression reduces uniform, unimportant sounds slightly. In the Own 4 ITC, we find a rather below-average noise suppression. Noise-sensitive individuals may have to make some compromises in listening comfort. This device can detect wind and slightly reduce the noise.
Explosive sounds are likely cushioned, but we didn't really notice the effect. We have to forgo spatial hearing with the Own 4 ITC, but at least the microphones can be switched to a focus mode. Although the Own 4 ITC doesn't have many adjustable equalizer bands, the 14 should be sufficient for a good listening result.
The signal processing of the Own 4 ITC also utilizes artificial intelligence. This allows for a much more realistic analysis of the listening environment, and especially the clarity in noisy surroundings is significantly better.

Oticon Own 4 ITC:
Operation & connectivity
Every person has their own specific hearing needs. Therefore, it is beneficial if one can customize their hearing aids beyond the automatic features. In our testing, we discovered the following access options: The simplest operation option is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has it as well. It can be programmed to your liking. Do you want manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for step-by-step adjustment of the volume. Or do you need various special programs for your professional daily life or hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. Anyone who wants to keep everything in automatic mode can simply ignore the button or even have it disabled. A discreet way to adjust the hearing aid is the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person you're talking to speaks too softly again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from Oticon unfortunately cannot yet. That would be useful when fingers are not as mobile or when one simply likes smart gadgets. Some hearing aids can also be operated with a quick tap of the finger without having to press a button. However, this feature has not yet been implemented here.
An app on the smartphone is supposed to make operation easier, and we have found one for the Own 4 ITC as well. In addition to basic functions such as volume and programs, we also find a few more buttons for personalization. Problems with phone calls on a smartphone are a thing of the past with this device. Phone calls, music, and other sounds are completely wirelessly transmitted to the hearing aids. Headphones become unnecessary. We tested the wireless transmission during longer phone calls as well as for listening to music while exercising. Everything worked smoothly and seamlessly. Only a suitable smartphone with 2.4 GHz wireless technology is required.
Rating Operation & connectivity: 2,0

Simplicity & security
An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its suitability for everyday use. This includes automated functions, as well as robustness and user-friendliness. We receive relatively little support from the programming automation in the Own 4 ITC. Without some individual hearing programs, one will probably not manage in a lively everyday life. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually raises the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually get used to the new hearing impressions.
Many hearing aids today have a rechargeable battery, but the Own 4 ITC still operates on disposable batteries. This is somewhat cumbersome to handle and also puts a strain on the environment.
We had an effortless everyday life during our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then took out the hearing aids with wet hands - no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to soapy bathwater or saltwater.

Extras
Lastly, we are interested in whether there are any additional goodies: Certainly worth mentioning is the tinnitus program. All those plagued by annoying ear noises will benefit from it. Pleasant, quiet sounds are adjusted to gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus fades into the background noise and is no longer bothersome at all.
A very good additional benefit comes from the remote maintenance service. Through the app, you can contact your hearing care professional and describe your hearing problem. They can then adjust the settings accordingly and upload them to the hearing aids through the app. For people with little time or a long commute, this is a great service.
A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track personal health data, for example. However, the Own 4 ITC does not offer this. With devices like this one from Oticon, our test reports are getting longer, as there are now also intelligent additional functions. Various assistants make your life easier and are personalized in the app. While not strictly necessary, it is a lot of fun. For this, we give a good rating.
