Hearing comfort
Good speech understanding is standard in modern hearing aids. Equally important is listening comfort. Only when the ratio of speech transmission to the level of background noise is right will hearing be perceived as pleasant. Therefore, we take a look at the comfort features: In the Own 4 ITE HS, we found few options for comfort adjustment. Normal background noises like street noise, vacuum cleaner noise, or that from a fan should be dampened by classic noise suppression. In this Oticon hearing aid, you shouldn't have your expectations too high. Street noise outside will surely be reduced adequately, but what is loud will remain loud.
The impulse sound management in this model is not really powerful, but at least, loud noises are somewhat cushioned. This device can detect wind and slightly attenuate the noise. We are far from a 3D surround sound here. Only the switchable focus forward offers some hearing support in company. A few more frequency channels would be desirable, but with the existing 14 channels, one can work quite well.

Most hearing aids automatically adjust to their surroundings. However, it is sometimes very practical to be able to change something yourself. We looked at the operating options offered by the Own 4 ITE HS: Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the Own 4 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be disabled if desired. A remote control is available for the Own 4 ITE HS. It is quite practical, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume option as well as different hearing programs.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but unfortunately, this one from Oticon cannot. That would be practical if the fingers are no longer as mobile, or if one simply likes smart gadgets. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is a tap control. You simply tap your fingers on your ear, which triggers a specific function. But this feature is not available in this Oticon device.
In the AppStore, we also find a suitable application from Oticon. The app for the Own 4 ITE HS is not one of our highlights, but it has everything you need for your hearing systems. Problems with phone calls on your smartphone are a thing of the past with this device. Phone calls, music, and other sounds are completely wirelessly transmitted to the hearing aids. Headphones become unnecessary. We tested the wireless transmission during longer phone calls and while listening to music during sports. Everything worked simply and smoothly. Only a compatible smartphone with 2.4 GHz wireless technology is needed.

Simplicity & security
An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its everyday usability. This includes, for example, automated functions as well as robustness and user-friendliness. We don’t necessarily experience simple, comfortable hearing with the Own 4 ITE HS. In a quieter daily life, it is manageable, but as soon as you have a varied hearing experience, manual adjustments become unavoidable. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It gradually raises the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This significantly facilitates the adjustment to the new sound.
Zinc-air batteries power the Own 4 ITE HS. Changing the batteries could become quite cumbersome for people with limited dexterity or vision. If you have concerns about this, you might want to look for a rechargeable model.

Als letztes interessiert uns, ob es noch ein paar Goodies on top gibt: Auf jeden Fall erwähnenswert ist das Tinnitusprogramm. Davon werden all jene profitieren, die von lästigen Ohrgeräuschen geplagt werden. Angenehme, leise Geräusche werden so eingestellt, dass sie den Tinnitus sanft umspielen. Am Ende versinkt der Tinnitus in der Geräuschkulisse und fällt gar nicht mehr störend auf.
Ein cleveres Tool ist der integrierte Fernwartungsservice. Fast jeder hat ein Smartphone, und Zeit ist ein knappes Gut. Deshalb ist so ein Fernwartungsservice absolut angemessen. Wer eine neue Programmierung seiner Hörgeräte benötigt, kann ganz einfach über die App Kontakt zum Akustiker aufnehmen und seine Hörwünsche beschreiben. Über einen Cloud-Service kann der Profi dann eine individuelle Einstellung als Datenpaket in die App schicken. Von dort wird sie aufs Hörgerät geladen und kann sofort ausprobiert werden. Das verdient auf jeden Fall Extrapunkte in unserem Test.
Hätte Oticon Bewegungssensoren in dieses Hörgerät integriert, dann könnte sogar ein individuelles Gesundheits-Tracking erfolgen. Das ist hier aber nicht der Fall. Diese Punkte gehen dem Own 4 ITE HS in der Wertung verloren. Mit Geräten wie diesem aus dem Hause Oticon werden unsere Testberichte immer länger, denn nun gibt es auch noch intelligente Zusatzfunktionen. Verschiedene Assistenten erleichtern Ihnen das Leben und werden in der App personalisiert. Zwingend nötig ist das nicht, macht aber riesig Spaß. Dafür gibt es eine gute Bewertung von uns.
