Hearing comfort

So let's take a look at noise management: In this model offered by Oticon, we find only the absolute essentials concerning hearing comfort. Of course, noise suppression is integrated to mitigate tiring background noises. In the Zircon 2 mini RITE R, the manufacturer has included simple noise reduction, but it cannot be adjusted further. While there is wind reduction in the Zircon 2 mini RITE R, it doesn't really help outdoors.

Unfortunately, an impulse sound suppressor is not included in the Zircon 2 mini RITE R. Directional hearing is relatively difficult because there is nothing in the Zircon 2 mini RITE R that reconstructs spatial hearing. A few more frequency channels would be desirable, but the existing 12 channels are already quite usable.

By the way, you might perceive the sound from this Oticon device as clearer and more natural, especially in noisy environments. This is likely due to the implemented artificial intelligence. Most hearing aids automatically adjust to their surroundings. However, it is sometimes very practical to be able to make some changes oneself. After all, the hearing aid does not know how you are feeling at the moment. We took a look at the operation options offered by the Zircon 2 mini RITE R: there is a button directly on the hearing aid. With it, you can adjust the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed according to customer preferences. The use is, of course, optional. A remote control is available for the Zircon 2 mini RITE R. It is quite handy, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume up/down option as well as various hearing programs.

We are always pleasantly surprised when a hearing aid comes with a great added feature. For example, we would have liked to see voice control here. But that is currently not available in the Zircon 2 mini RITE R. There is no control of the hearing aids with a simple fingertip in this Oticon model, as it would require specific sensors in the casing.

Manual operation includes an app. This allows for discreet access to the hearing aid. In addition to volume control, you can also adjust hearing programs and a few other functions. You no longer need headphones here, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds directly from the smartphone to your ears – provided the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

Now let's continue with the test: How does it stand with user-friendliness? Is it easy or complicated to handle the hearing aid? An automatic environmental adjustment would certainly be helpful in everyday life, but unfortunately, it is not provided in the Zircon 2 mini RITE R. Therefore, we have to rely on the manual adjustment options. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It gradually increases the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This significantly facilitates getting used to the new sound.

The Zircon 2 mini RITE R is rechargeable and no longer requires any hearing aid batteries. This is environmentally friendly, as there are no old batteries that need to be disposed of. At the same time, it is also extremely convenient because there is no need to carry spare batteries. The hearing aids simply go into the charging station in the evening and are ready for use the next morning.

The data sheet certifies the Oticon device with an IP68 protection class certification. This makes it one of the most robust hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water does not enter the housing unless it is submerged deeper than 1.5 meters. However, be careful. Shampoo, for example, changes the surface tension of the water. You should also avoid saltwater. In everyday life, however, you can behave completely carefree.

Finally, let's take a quick look at whether there are any additional features: Here, we noticed the tinnitus option. Those who wish can have a special tinnitus program set up. This will generate a gentle noise in the ears if needed, to help distract from the annoying tinnitus. The sounds can be customized according to personal hearing preferences.

A real added value is the remote service. To change the hearing aid settings, you no longer have to necessarily go to the specialist store, but can directly contact the acoustician via the app. Through a cloud service, you can then upload the new data package to the hearing aids. This is exactly what we expect from a modern hearing aid.

There are no sensors in this Zircon 2 variant, so the popular health tracking feature cannot be offered. For example, daily steps are counted. As mentioned - this hearing aid does not have this function. In combination with a smartphone, the Zircon 2 mini RITE R surprises us with some nice lifestyle features. It definitely pays off to familiarize yourself thoroughly with the app and use the available assistance programs.
