In this test report, we talk about the HearLink 3030 CIC. It was developed by Philips and covers mild, moderate, and severe hearing needs. This variant is worn in the ear. The HearLink 3030 CIC is a delicate, small hearing aid at a reasonable price from the upper mid-range. We achieve clean sound transmission through its direct placement in the ear canal.

Hearing comfort

First, we assess the hearing comfort features. What types of noise does the hearing aid recognize? How does it handle them? Is the hearing aid suitable for a varied daily life? Here, with this test device, solid comfort programming by the hearing care professional is possible. As with all hearing aids, we also find the typical noise reduction feature here. It is designed to reduce monotonous, noisy ambient sounds to the point where they no longer dominate the foreground. The HearLink 3030 CIC performs quite well in noise suppression. There are certainly other models that reduce background noise significantly more, but this one should be sufficient for normal daily hearing.

However, users of the HearLink 3030 CIC must deal with the wind that sweeps over the microphones. There is no wind noise reduction here. The impulse sound management is relatively simple; it dampens short loud sounds a bit, which is acceptable. A decent basis for programming the HearLink 3030 CIC is provided by the 14 equalizer bands. As sound enthusiasts, we would prefer a few more, but for the typical situations we encounter in our daily lives, a quite reasonable sound profile can be created from them. Hearing aids like the HearLink 3030 CIC preserve the natural spatial perception we have experienced since childhood. The function of the pinna, head size, head shadow effects—all these parameters create a genuine, original 3D hearing experience.

Artificial intelligence is also employed in the signal processing of the HearLink 3030 CIC. This enables a far more realistic analysis of the hearing environment, and above all, clarity in noisy surroundings is significantly better.

Operation & connectivity

Most hearing aids automatically adapt to their environment. However, it is sometimes very practical to be able to make adjustments yourself. After all, the hearing aid does not know how you are currently feeling. We looked into what control options the HearLink 3030 CIC has to offer: There is usually a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the HearLink 3030 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or a program selection button and can also be deactivated if desired. We did not find a remote control. It's a shame because we actually think this discreet control option is quite good.

The modern form of control via voice command is not yet available in the HearLink 3030 CIC. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is a tapping control. You simply tap your fingers on your ear, which in turn triggers a specific function. But this option is not available in this Philips device.

We missed an app for the HearLink 3030 CIC during the test. If controlling via smartphone is important to you, you should look for another model. Unfortunately, the smartphone cannot be connected to the hearing aid, as the necessary equipment with a wireless antenna is lacking.

Simplicity & security

We are also interested in how quickly one can get used to the HearLink 3030 CIC and how easy the daily use is. Unfortunately, there is no powerful situation automation in the HearLink 3030 CIC. We have to make do with a few standard settings. Active hearing aid users will certainly encounter limitations here. The adaptation to the new hearing experience is supported by this device with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated. I don’t have to do anything other than wear my hearing aids regularly.

The HearLink 3030 CIC is not rechargeable. It is powered by hearing aid batteries size 10. Disadvantage: The batteries are disposed of after use. Advantage: Daily charging of batteries is not necessary, and the hearing aid runs continuously for several days on a single battery.

The HearLink 3030 is almost dust- and waterproof and, with its IP 68 classification, is certainly well protected against external influences.

Extras

Sometimes there are additional features in hearing aids that can be quite useful. Let's see how it is with this Philips device: A tinnitus program would be an additional bonus. Many people who suffer from ear noises could benefit from this. But unfortunately, the HearLink 3030 CIC does not have a tinnitus option and loses a few points in the test.

A nice feature would be a remote maintenance service, allowing assistance from the hearing professional even when one cannot come to the store. But unfortunately, this is not available here, so there is no extra point.

A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track some personal health data, for example. However, the HearLink 3030 CIC does not offer this. Other hearing aids already have a few extended options such as a fall alert or reminder functions. We do not find this here, and that is not so dramatic, because the normal hearing functions are still the most important.
