The Philips HearLink 3030 ITC in review
Are you curious about this hearing aid from Philips? Let's see what we have found out. The HearLink 3030 ITC has been designed for almost every hearing need and is worn in the ear. It is a small hearing aid from a still moderate price category.
Due to its direct placement in the ear canal, we have good, clear sound.
Hearing comfort
Good speech comprehension is a given in modern hearing aids. Equally important is hearing comfort. Only when the ratio of speech transmission to the level of background noise is right will hearing be perceived as pleasant. That’s why we take a look at the comfort features: With the HearLink 3030 ITC, solid comfort programming by the hearing care professional is possible. Normal environmental noises like traffic noise, the sound of a vacuum cleaner, or the noise from a fan should be dampened by a classic noise suppression. In this Philips hearing aid, background noise is reliably recognized, but only moderately reduced.
Our test discovered impulse sound damping. It slightly reduces loud, sudden noises. For windy outdoor situations, Philips has provided wind noise reduction. This is quite useful and simply belongs to a modern comfort feature. A true 3D sound experience cannot be generated with the current test device. Especially outdoors, one should look around more often to identify the locations of individual sound sources. However, focusing on a specific speaker works quite well with the integrated directional microphones. Although the HearLink 3030 ITC does not have many adjustable equalizer bands, the 14 should suffice for a good listening experience.
Interestingly, artificial intelligence also plays a role in signal processing here. Sound is not only analyzed based on typical frequency patterns. Particularly intense, noisy situations are thus perceived as more realistic and pleasant.

Operation & connectivity
Every person has their own specific hearing needs. It is beneficial to be able to customize hearing aids beyond the automatic functions. In our test, we discovered the following access options: There is a button directly on the hearing aid. This allows users to change the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed according to customer preferences. The use is, of course, optional. A discreet way to adjust the hearing aid is through the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If someone speaks too softly, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
In our test, we found no option for voice control. While this feature is not necessarily needed, we would have appreciated it. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap without having to press a button. However, this feature has not been implemented here yet.
An app is the perfect companion for hearing aids. The app for the HearLink 3030 ITC is absolutely commendable. It is a sensible addition, as it can significantly ease life in critical hearing situations with its various adjustment options. One of the best features of the hearing aid is the direct streaming function. This turns the hearing aid into a TrueWireless earphone, receiving phone calls and other sounds directly in the ear. A compatible smartphone with 2.4 GHz technology is required. The biggest advantage is that phone calls can be heard in both ears instead of just one. Additionally, the sound can be adjusted to personal preferences.

Simplicity & security
Now let's take a look at how the usage is designed in everyday life. Is the handling straightforward? Do I get a secure device? When it comes to simplicity, it’s initially about easy, effortless hearing. This works quite well with the existing situational automation in the HearLink 3030 ITC. However, when the acoustic environment becomes a bit more varied, the automation reaches its limits, and we prefer to rely on manual adjustment options. The integrated acclimatization manager can be of great help when entering the world of hearing aids. Its task is to gradually raise the volume of the hearing device in tiny steps until the target volume is reached. This allows you to relax and gradually get used to the new hearing impressions. More information about acclimatization and other hearing aids with this feature can be found here: Acclimatization to Hearing Aids.
The HearLink 3030 ITC is not rechargeable. It operates with hearing aid batteries size 312. Disadvantage: The batteries are disposed of after use. Advantage: The daily recharging of batteries is eliminated; the hearing aid runs continuously for several days on one battery.
The data sheet certifies the Philips device with an IP protection class of 68. This makes it one of the most robust hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water does not penetrate the housing as long as it doesn't submerge deeper than 1.5 m. Nevertheless, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. However, in everyday life, you can behave completely carefree.

Extras
Before we come to the end, let’s take a look at the extras: For example, a tinnitus option would be interesting. Unfortunately, we did not find any option in the HearLink 3030 ITC to alleviate tinnitus.
We find the remote maintenance service exciting, which can be utilized. If you don’t have the opportunity to go to the hearing care professional, you can instead contact them via the app, briefly describe your hearing problem, and then receive a data package with a new hearing aid configuration. If it sounds good, you load it into your hearing aids.
A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track some personal health data, but the HearLink 3030 ITC does not offer this. Digital algorithms and suitable apps are increasingly allowing the integration of lifestyle functions that support your everyday life. We are impressed with what hearing aids like this from Philips can do today. Be sure to give it a try!
