The Philips HearLink 7050 MNR T R in review
We tested a small hearing aid this time with a very slim design at the highest quality level. It is the Philips HearLink 7050 MNR T R. It is worn behind the ear and is intended for mild to profound hearing losses. The receiver (= speaker), which is directly in the ear canal, is thanks to its design, which also provides a nice, clear sound.
Hearing comfort
In our test, we typically start with the analysis of comfort features. A comfortable sound is characterized by a mix of speech and ambient noise that is realistic and as pleasant as possible. Various electronic tools take care of all the noises. With the HearLink 7050 MNR T R, we were impressed by the excellent sound management. One of the noise tools is the noise suppression, which is designed to dampen sounds like traffic noise, refrigerator hum, or PC fan noise. Here, the noise suppression can be adjusted to the customer's preference.
Additionally, there is a really strong impulse filter that reduces all short, sharp impulses as much as the customer desires. We are excited about how clearly the wind noise is suppressed with this hearing aid and how stable the device operates even in stronger winds. The hearing aid earns a big plus for its outstanding 3D hearing. Flexible, highly adaptive directional microphones allow for various directional characteristics and automatically adjust to the requirements of the specific situation. For a precise, natural listening experience, the number of adjustable frequency bands is of great importance. With 20, this Philips device is a true top model and allows for differentiated fine-tuning over several years.
One component in the signal processing of the HearLink 7050 MNR T R is artificial intelligence. The impact is positive, as many customers find conversations in noisy situations to be significantly more relaxed.

Operation & connectivity
Digital hearing aids have long evolved beyond the normal amplification function. Apps and other control options significantly expand their functionality, which is why we are also looking at this important topic with the HearLink 7050 MNR T R from Philips. Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we have found one on the HearLink 7050 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can even be deactivated if desired. A discreet way to adjust the hearing aid is the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person you're speaking with is once again too soft-spoken, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control. For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Philips has not yet reached that point with this device. Don't worry, this feature would be nice, but it's not essential. More and more functionalities are being incorporated into hearing aids that are already familiar from other areas. Here in the HearLink 7050 MNR T R, it's the tap control. It’s sufficient to briefly tap on the ear shell with your fingers or flat hand, and a command will be triggered. This could, for example, be the start of a transmission from the TV adapter. Your hearing care professional will help you select the appropriate function. You can best adjust the HearLink 7050 MNR T R with the corresponding app. The first apps had just one screen, but this one offers far more than just the usual volume control. Here are some clear advantages from us. Problems when making calls with a smartphone are a thing of the past with this device. Phone calls, music, and other sounds are completely wirelessly transmitted to the hearing aids. Headphones thus become unnecessary. We tested the wireless transmission during longer phone calls as well as for listening to music while exercising. Everything worked smoothly and seamlessly. All you need is a compatible smartphone with 2.4 GHz wireless technology.

Simplicity & security
Now let's briefly discuss everyday usability. Is the HearLink 7050 MNR T R user-friendly and easy to handle? Does it have water protection? Here are our findings: With top-class situational awareness, the HearLink 7050 MNR T R has completely convinced us. The hearing aid adapts seamlessly to the acoustic environment and rarely requires our intervention. Hearing feels completely normal. Very important in terms of simplicity is the support during the acclimatization process. Especially after having heard poorly for years, it can sometimes be difficult to perceive everything at a natural volume. In our test device, there is an acclimatization manager that helps us with very small volume adjustments throughout the adjustment phase. After a few weeks or months, we then reach the calculated amplification level.
The HearLink 7050 MNR T R is rechargeable and no longer requires batteries. This is not only environmentally friendly but also very convenient to handle and frees me from the burden of constantly thinking about battery replacements.
We had a carefree everyday life in our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then took out the hearing aids with wet hands - no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to foamy bath water or salt water.

Extras
Sometimes there are additional features in hearing aids that can be quite useful. Let's see how it is with this Philips device: Are you among those suffering from tinnitus? If so, you could use the optional tinnitus program in the HearLink 7050 MNR T R. Soft, gentle sounds are tailored to your hearing and engage all areas of the inner ear. It's nothing more than a distraction maneuver, and it works remarkably well. The tinnitus fades into the general noise and is no longer bothersome. This is a simple but effective tool, and we give it extra points.
We find the remote maintenance service quite exciting, which can be utilized. If you don't have the opportunity to visit the hearing aid specialist, you can instead contact them through the app, briefly describe your hearing problem, and then receive a data package with a new hearing aid configuration. If it sounds good to you, you load it into your hearing aids.
If Philips had integrated motion sensors into this hearing aid, it could even allow for individual health tracking. However, this is not the case here. These points are lost for the HearLink 7050 MNR T R in the rating. We really liked the additional features included in the HearLink 7050 MNR T R. Various assistants support your daily life beyond hearing and can be configured in the app. Such hearing aids are hard to give up. By the way: These lifestyle features are often still being worked on, so they may change with updates.
