The Philips HearLink 9010 MNR T in review

Could this hearing aid from the Philips program be the right choice for you? In our review of the HearLink 9010 MNR T, we have highlighted the key aspects. We have a small, barely visible hearing aid from the high-end category that is worn behind the ear. The arrangement of the speakers, positioned discreetly in the ear towards the eardrum, lays the foundation for good hearing success, as the sound has only a very short distance to travel to the eardrum. This ensures that all sounds reach exactly where we want them to.

The HearLink 9010 MNR T provides sufficient amplification for both mild and stronger hearing needs.

Hearing comfort

Hearing comfort determines whether someone likes to wear their hearing aids or not. That’s why we first looked at how the hearing aid handles background noise. In this model, which Philips presents to us, solid comfort programming by the audiologist is possible. Of course, noise suppression is integrated, which is supposed to soften exhausting background noises. The HearLink 9010 MNR T includes a noteworthy and well-functioning noise reduction feature. While a slightly stronger wind reduction would be desirable, the one in the HearLink 9010 MNR T is certainly manageable.

Short and loud noises are usually annoying, but in this model, there is an adaptable impulse sound control. This makes sounds like cutlery clattering, slamming drawers, or crinkling newspapers feel less unpleasant. Directional hearing often needs a bit of support for hearing aid users. The HearLink 9010 MNR T provides this support confidently and allows for good spatial orientation. A high number of frequency bands aids in the separation of speech and noise. With its 16 bands, the HearLink 9010 MNR T certainly ranks in the upper tier.

Philips has not yet implemented artificial intelligence in this version.

Operation & connectivity

“Can I adjust something on my hearing aid myself?” “Is there perhaps an app?” These and similar questions are becoming increasingly important when selecting a hearing aid, so let's take a look at the operating and connection options. Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the HearLink 9010 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be disabled if desired. We do like the small remote controls, and we found one for this model. This way, you can discreetly make small adjustments to the volume or sound.

For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids louder or softer using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Philips is not there yet with this device. Don’t worry, this feature would be nice, but it’s not essential. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap, without having to press a button. However, this feature has not yet been implemented here.

A very typical operating option nowadays is apps for smartphones. The HearLink 9010 MNR T also has an app. It allows you to intuitively adjust the volume or switch programs. You can’t really go wrong with it because there isn't much more functionality than that. You don’t need headphones anymore, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds directly from the smartphone to the ears – provided the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

Simplicity & security

Of course, we are also interested in how quickly one can adapt to the HearLink 9010 MNR T and how easy daily use is. A well-functioning situational awareness creates a lot of relaxation in everyday hearing. One does not have to constantly fiddle with the device and can easily let themselves be guided by the automated adjustments. Some people find it difficult to get used to it, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is an acclimatization manager that gradually leads us to the required target amplification. The duration can range from a few weeks to several months, and it can be individually adjusted. The individual steps are so small that you hardly notice when there is a volume increase.

The HearLink 9010 MNR T is not rechargeable. It continues to get its energy from disposable batteries of size 312, which need to be changed every few days.

The HearLink 9010 is nearly dust- and water-resistant and, with its IP 68 classification, is certainly well protected against external influences.

Extras

Before we come to the end, let's take a look at the extras: Tinnitus is an issue for many people, but unfortunately, this hearing aid does not have a special tinnitus sound program. So we cannot award an extra point here. We find the remote maintenance service exciting, which can be utilized. If one has no opportunity to go to the audiologist, they can instead contact them via the app, briefly describe their hearing problem, and then receive a data package with a new hearing aid configuration. If it sounds good, they can upload it to their hearing aids. Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this Philips model lacks the sensors for this service. Then there are a few lifestyle functions that make your hearing aid a smart assistant. Connect with voice assistants like Siri, or discover what else is in the app. While this doesn't have much to do with actual hearing, it can be extremely useful.

With a final grade of 2.87, this model stands out in the mid-range. It has a fairly decent level of comfort features included, which is sufficient for typical everyday moments and provides a satisfactory listening experience.
