The ReSound Vivia 7 61-DRW in review
The purchase of a hearing aid should be well thought out, after all, it comes with a considerable price, and you want to enjoy it for many years. Therefore, we will look at various parameters and provide you with the results of our product tests. This test report is about the Vivia 7 61-DRW from ReSound. It is a fine little hearing aid from the premium segment and is suitable for both mild and stronger hearing needs. It is worn behind the ear. Due to the comfortable position of the speaker in the ear canal, it has quite good acoustic sound properties right from the start.
With the new ReSound Vivia, a shift in technical level occurs.
Hearing comfort
In our test, we usually start with the analysis of comfort features. A comfortable sound is characterized by a mix of speech and background noise that is realistic and as pleasant as possible. Various electronic tools take care of all the noises. With the Vivia 7 61-DRW, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive noise management. One of the noise tools is noise suppression, which is designed to dampen sounds like traffic noise, refrigerator humming, or PC ventilation. Here, the disruptive noises can be adjusted in several stages, allowing the user to decide how much dampening is truly comfortable.
We are pleased to find good and efficient impulse sound damping here. It is definitely useful in everyday life, as it noticeably cushions door slamming, dish clattering, or similarly clattering noises. The Vivia 7 61-DRW impresses us with its wind noise suppression and offers good performance in this regard. Spatial hearing is of great importance for orientation in space and for recognizing directions and distances. With this hearing aid from ReSound, one can feel completely secure. It mimics the function of natural hearing and makes information from all directions accessible. While the Vivia 7 61-DRW does not have many adjustable equalizer bands, the 14 should be sufficient for a good hearing experience.
Strategies based on artificial intelligence are not yet implemented in this hearing aid from ReSound.
The hearing aids automatically adapt to the environment and enable clear speech perception without masking important background sounds. This keeps the listening experience natural and relaxed, while the brain decides which sounds to focus on. In challenging listening situations, a focus program can be activated, directing the microphones specifically forward. Compared to the less expensive device variant, the focus angle is narrower, allowing for more precise capture of an individual person's speech and making understanding even easier.

Operation & connectivity
Since you probably don’t have your hearing specialist by your side all the time, it’s quite helpful to be able to make changes to the hearing aid yourself. There are various control options, and we’ll look at which ones the Vivia 7 61-DRW has. For those who want to quickly and easily adjust the volume up or down, there is a button on the device. You can also select additional programs for special listening situations through this. A discreet way to change the hearing aid is via the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person across from you is speaking too softly again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or for driving can also be activated with the remote.
In our test, we didn’t find any option for voice control. This feature is not necessarily required, but it would have pleased us nonetheless. Another option to control the hearing aids is a tap control. You simply tap your fingers on your ear, which triggers a specific function. However, this option is not available in this ReSound device.
Apps for hearing aids are now widespread. The one for the Vivia 7 61-DRW piqued our interest. It’s fun to use this app, as it expands the functionality of the hearing aid with a few very useful tools. You don’t need headphones here anymore, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds from the smartphone directly to the ears – provided the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.
The ReSound Smart 3D app now includes the Auracast Assistant – free and user-friendly. This allows your smartphone to receive audio signals even if it doesn't natively support Auracast. An icon on the home screen takes you to a convenient list of available sources, and you can connect with just one click. Enjoy cutting-edge connectivity without any additional effort.

Simplicity & security
No matter how great the hearing aid sounds: nothing is more uncomfortable than a product that constantly presents us with hurdles in daily life. Therefore, simplicity and safety are very important topics in our hearing aid tests: a balanced situation automatic is the main point we look at when it comes to simplicity. After all, no one wants to constantly fiddle with their hearing aid. The Vivia 7 61-DRW has proven in testing that it accompanies us comfortably and reliably through our hearing everyday life. With its excellent full automation, this device is a real highlight. The integrated acclimatization manager can be of great help when entering the world of hearing aids. Its task is to gradually increase the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until the target volume is reached. This way, you can relax and gradually get used to the new sounds. More information on acclimatization and other hearing aids with this feature can be found here: Acclimatization to Hearing Aids.
Unfortunately, the Vivia 7 61-DRW is not equipped with a battery, so regularly size 312 batteries are needed for operation.
The data sheet certifies the ReSound device with an IP protection class of 68. This makes it one of the most resilient hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water cannot penetrate the casing as long as it is not submerged deeper than 1.5 m. However, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. In everyday life, however, you can behave completely carefree.

Extras
The finale belongs to the extras, meaning small additional features that could provide some extra points for the hearing aid: A special tinnitus program can be programmed into the Vivia 7 61-DRW upon request. This program can generate stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from the tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and gladly award extra points.
We find the remote maintenance service exciting, which can be utilized. If one has no opportunity to visit the hearing care professional, they can instead contact them via the app, briefly describe their hearing problem, and then receive a data package with a new hearing aid configuration. If it sounds good, they can upload it to their hearing aids.
There are no sensors in this Vivia 7 variant, meaning the popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, steps are counted throughout the day. As mentioned - this hearing aid does not have this function onboard. The hearing aid also forgoes additional functions such as special assistance systems, a fall alarm, or language translators. This is not a big deal, as it does not affect the important hearing functions.
ReSound now offers you interchangeable microphone filters that protect your hearing aids from external influences and ensure consistently high sound quality. The change is incredibly easy and can be done by you – quickly, conveniently, and at no additional cost. This way, your hearing aids always remain in optimal condition.
