This time it was the Audeo Infinio 30 R from Phonak, a device from a good, mid-quality range, which can compensate for mild, moderate, and even severe hearing needs. The Audeo Infinio 30 R is a fairly small hearing aid that sits behind the ear. By cleverly relocating the speaker into the ear canal, it has already fulfilled the basic requirements for decent sound.
Hearing comfort
In the first chapter, we assess the quality of noise management. We refer to this as listening comfort, as these features determine how pleasant the sound of the hearing aids feels to the wearer. However, noises can be of various types and require different tools for suppression. The manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive noise management in the Audeo Infinio 30 R. First, we look at noise suppression. This is meant to tame everyday sounds like the noise from ventilation or a refrigerator. In this Phonak model, we would classify the noise reduction as mediocre. It is adequate if you do not live in a very noisy environment.
Impulse noise suppression is a very important element in the comfort features of a hearing aid. It dampens banging and clattering noises. In the Audeo Infinio 30 R, this damping occurs in multiple stages. This definitely earns some extra points. Some hearing aids reach their limits when the wind sweeps over the microphones outside. That can get quite loud. But Phonak has a solution, namely a highly dampening, adjustable wind noise suppression. It works very well and assists all those who enjoy being outdoors. While the Audeo Infinio 30 R doesn’t have many adjustable equalizer bands, the 12 should be sufficient for good hearing results. In our tests, we also examine spatial hearing. Although adaptive microphones are integrated here, the wireless connection between both ears is missing, which prevents the reconstruction of genuine 3D hearing. Nevertheless, one can manage quite well. With a little practice, directional hearing can be retrained.
Artificial intelligence is also employed in the signal processing of the Audeo Infinio 30 R. This enables a much more realistic analysis of the listening environment, and especially the clarity in noisy surroundings is significantly improved.

Every person has their own unique hearing needs. It is beneficial if one can customize their hearing aids beyond the automatic functions. In the test, we discovered the following access options: There is usually a button on the hearing aid, and we found it on the Audeo Infinio 30 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can be deactivated if desired. Those who prefer not to touch their ear to adjust the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This allows for convenient and discreet adjustments to the hearing aid.
For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids louder or quieter using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Phonak is not quite there yet with this device. Don't worry, this feature would be nice, but it's not essential. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is a tap control. Simply tapping on the ear with your fingers triggers a specific function. However, this option is not available in this Phonak device.
Setting loudness or special functions via an app is already widespread today, and the Audeo Infinio 30 R also goes this route and provides us with an app. This app offers much more than just hearing aid functions and gives us a hint of what hearing aids could be used for in the future - besides good hearing. One of the best features of the hearing aid is the direct streaming function. This turns the hearing aid into a TrueWireless earphone, receiving phone calls and other sounds directly in the ear. A compatible smartphone that includes 2.4 GHz technology is required. The biggest advantage is that you can hear phone calls not only in one ear but in both. Additionally, the sound can be tailored to personal needs.

The Audeo Infinio 30 R has a rechargeable battery. We think that’s great, as rechargeable hearing aids are absolutely modern. There's no need to have batteries lying around everywhere, and you don’t have to change the battery in the middle of a concert. The hearing aid is simply placed in the charging station overnight and has enough power for the following day.
The hearing aid has been classified into protection class IP 68. This guarantees comprehensive protection against dust ingress. Water also cannot easily damage the hearing aid. Thus, it is well equipped for outdoor activities where it can get wet and dirty. However, do not necessarily swim or bathe with the hearing aids. Bath additives or the salt content in seawater can alter the composition and ultimately cause damage.

Über einen Cloud-Service kann der Profi dann eine individuelle Einstellung als Datenpaket in die App schicken. Von dort wird sie aufs Hörgerät geladen und kann sofort ausprobiert werden. Das verdient auf jeden Fall Extrapunkte in unserem Test.

Die Daten lassen sich dann in der App anschauen. Es kann gut sein, dass über nachfolgende Updates noch weitere Tracking-Funktionen hinzukommen. Die App von diesem Phonak-Gerät sollten Sie mal genauer unter die Lupe nehmen. Da stecken nämlich ein paar Extras drin, die den Funktionsumfang dieser Hörgeräte nochmal deutlich ausweiten. Wer auf Spitzentechnik verzichten möchte, aber trotzdem einen bequemen Höralltag wünscht, der ist hier an der richtigen Stelle.
