The Audeo Lumity 30 RT from Phonak is a small hearing aid that is worn behind the ear. By utilizing the placement of the speaker directly in the ear canal, very good sound transmission is possible. The Audeo Lumity 30 RT is a hearing aid from the upper mid-range and is suitable for mild to severe hearing loss.

Hearing comfort

First, we looked at the comfort features. The better these are, the easier and more pleasant the hearing experience becomes. A solid comfort programming is possible with this hearing aid through the audiologist. The traditional noise suppression reduces uniform, unimportant sounds somewhat. The Audeo Lumity 30 RT does this quite well. In a normal hearing environment, it is certainly manageable. We are impressed with how clearly the wind noises are suppressed and how stable the device works even in stronger winds.

Points are deducted for the lack of impulse noise suppression. Normally, this would dampen short, clanging sounds. But those who choose this hearing aid should not be disturbed by this. We miss a good room sound, but the automatic focus can be quite helpful in situations with multiple people. A few more frequency channels would be desirable, but the existing 12 channels are already fairly workable.

It is interesting that artificial intelligence also plays a role in signal processing here. The sound is not only analyzed based on typical frequency patterns. Especially intense, noisy situations are perceived as more realistic and pleasant.

Operation & connectivity

The operating options for hearing aids are now as simple or as complex as anyone would like. The basic functions run fully automatically, of course. We wanted to know how users can further access the Audeo Lumity 30 RT. For those who want to quickly and easily adjust the volume up or down, there is a button on the device. You can also select additional programs for special listening situations through it. The small remote control, which is optionally available, is very practical. For us, this is one of the most convenient ways to raise or lower the volume of the hearing aid or switch to another listening program. No one notices; reaching for the ear is unnecessary.

We are always pleased when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional feature. For example, we would have liked to see voice control here. But that is currently not available in the Audeo Lumity 30 RT. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is tap control. This simply involves tapping your fingers on your ear, which in turn triggers a specific function. However, this is not available in this Phonak device.

Apps for hearing aids are now widespread. The one for the Audeo Lumity 30 RT has sparked our playful side. It is fun to use this app as it expands the functionality of the hearing aid with some very useful tools. We particularly enjoyed the direct, wireless streaming. This means that calls from the smartphone are transmitted to the hearing aids without any additional accessories. This turns the hearing aid into the perfect hands-free system or wireless headphones. Listening to music or watching and hearing videos is incredibly convenient.

Simplicity & security

Another point in our checklist is the handling. Is everything simple and reliable? What does the hearing aid offer to ensure safe use in everyday life? In terms of hearing, situational recognition makes our lives easier. The Audeo Lumity 30 RT is not quite as sophisticated in this regard. This means that the hearing aid can indeed distinguish between quieter and louder environments and adjust accordingly. However, the challenging moments, such as loud conversations in a strong noise background, are not compensated as well. The adjustment to the new hearing experience is supported by this device with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely balanced. I just have to wear my hearing aids regularly.

Easy handling in everyday life definitely also includes power supply. The Audeo Lumity 30 RT has an integrated rechargeable battery. Since a charge is sufficient for the entire day, we don't have to worry about the battery dying in the middle of a conversation.

The data sheet confirms that the Phonak device has a certification according to IP protection class 68. This makes it one of the most robust hearing aids on the market. Dust doesn't stand a chance, and water also doesn't penetrate the casing, as long as it doesn't submerge deeper than 1.5 meters. However, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, changes the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. In everyday life, however, you can behave completely carefree.

At the end of our test report, there is a bit of space for extra features: Are you among those suffering from tinnitus? Then you could use the optional tinnitus program in the Audeo Lumity 30 RT. Soft, gentle sounds are tailored to your hearing and engage all areas of the inner ear. This is nothing more than a distraction tactic, and it works surprisingly well. The tinnitus fades into the general noise and no longer annoys you. This is a simple but effective tool and earns extra points from us. A clever tool is the integrated remote service. Almost everyone has a smartphone, and time is a scarce resource. Therefore, such a remote service is absolutely appropriate. If someone needs a new programming for their hearing aids, they can easily contact the audiologist through the app and describe their hearing preferences. Through a cloud service, the professional can then send a customized setting as a data package to the app. From there, it is uploaded to the hearing aid and can be tried out immediately. This definitely deserves extra points in our test. For health-conscious people, there is a small special feature in the Audeo Lumity 30 RT: health tracking. For example, steps can be counted throughout the day, and you receive feedback on your own activity level. Sensors in the hearing aid track the individual data, which can then be accessed in the app. We were really pleased with the additional features that are included in the Audeo Lumity 30 RT. Various assistants support your daily life beyond hearing and can be configured in the app. Such hearing aids are hard to part with. By the way, these lifestyle features are often still being worked on, so it is possible that they may change depending on updates.
