The Audeo Paradise 30 R from Phonak is a small hearing aid that is worn behind the ear. By using the discreet and simultaneously intelligent placement of the speaker in the ear canal, excellent sound transmission is possible. The Audeo Paradise 30 R is a hearing aid from the upper mid-range and is suitable for nearly every hearing need.

Hearing comfort

The hearing comfort determines whether someone likes to wear their hearing aids or not. That’s why we first looked at how the hearing aid handles background noise. In this model, presented by Phonak, we found very few options for influencing comfort. Of course, noise suppression is integrated to mitigate stressful background sounds. In the Audeo Paradise 30 R, the noise suppression can be adjusted to the customer's preference. Unfortunately, this hearing aid does not yet have wind noise suppression. What a pity.

An impulse sound attenuator is unfortunately not included in the Audeo Paradise 30 R. An adaptable directional microphone helps separate speech from noise, but we miss a true 3D experience. A few more frequency channels would be desirable, but the existing 12 channels already work quite well.

Phonak does not yet work with artificial intelligence in this version.

“Can I make adjustments on my hearing aid myself?” “Is there perhaps an app?” These and similar questions are becoming increasingly important when choosing a hearing aid, so let’s take a look at the control and connection options. Typically, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the Audeo Paradise 30. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be disabled if desired. We do like the small remote controls, and we found one for this model. This allows for discreet adjustments to the volume or sound.

Voice commands are a relatively new way of operating hearing aids. However, this model does not have that option yet. That's not too bad – the main thing is to hear well. There is no control of the hearing aids with a simple tap of a finger in this Phonak model, as it would have required certain sensors in the housing.

Hearing aid apps are becoming increasingly popular. With the Audeo Paradise 30 R, we are in luck: there is a suitable app. This app has completely impressed us. Not only are there numerous options to customize the hearing aids to personal hearing preferences, but the app also offers plenty of lifestyle features. You don’t need headphones here anymore, as it has a wireless option and can transfer sounds from the smartphone directly to your ears – as long as the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

Simplicity & security

We are also interested in how quickly one can get used to the Audeo Paradise 30 R and how easy daily use is. We don't necessarily experience simple, comfortable hearing with the Audeo Paradise 30 R. In a quieter daily life, one can manage, but as soon as you have a varied listening environment, you can't avoid manual adjustments. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually get used to the new sound impressions.

The Audeo Paradise 30 R comes with a charging station, as it has built-in batteries. This is contemporary, user-friendly, and we expect this from a modern hearing aid.

We also take a look at the robustness of the casing and discover in the data sheet the protection class IP 68. This means that dust cannot enter at all, and water only becomes a danger after prolonged submersion. Protection against contact is also included.

Lastly, we are interested in whether there are any additional goodies on top: A special tinnitus program can be programmed into the Audeo Paradise 30 R upon request. This allows stimulating, pleasant sounds to be generated, which distract from the tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and gladly award extra points.

We think the option for remote settings is really great. It is always very helpful when you just want to change a small detail in the hearing aid settings but don’t want to drive all the way to the hearing care professional. Instead, you contact them via the app, and the hearing professional sends back a customized data package in the same way.

With hearing aids, you can now do much more than just hear. Here in the Audeo Paradise 30 R, for example, there is the option to analyze your own movement data. Then you can check in the evening how far you have walked. This type of health tracking is interesting for many customers, so additional functions could be added through future updates. This Phonak hearing aid does not have any other lifestyle options onboard. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you don’t need that for good hearing. It would have just made the product a bit cooler.

This test device ranks in the lower positions overall and lacks some features. We give it a score of 3.83. This is acceptable for less demanding listeners, but for a very active lifestyle, we recommend a hearing aid with more extensive comfort features.
