The Phonak Naida Paradise 30 UP in review

Diese Geräte sind nicht mehr ganz aktuell und wurden von der Phonak Lumity-Technik abgelöst. Wir haben daher eine Abwertung in der Gesamtnote vorgenommen.

Phonak is launching its Naida Paradise 30 UP, a traditional hearing aid from the lower mid-range segment. It is a nice but quite visible hearing aid for moderate to severe hearing needs and is worn behind the ear.

Hearing comfort

Good speech comprehension is a given in modern hearing aids. Equally important is hearing comfort. Only when the ratio of speech transmission to the level of background noise is right will hearing be perceived as pleasant. Therefore, let's take a look at the comfort features: With the Naida Paradise 30 UP, we found only limited options for influencing comfort. Normal ambient noises like street noise, vacuum cleaner sound, or fan noise are supposed to be suppressed by traditional noise reduction. This Phonak hearing aid has one of the most powerful noise reductions on the market.

Even in more affordable hearing aids, we often find suppression for impulsive, rattling sounds today. But unfortunately, this clever tool is not included here, which is a shame. When the wind sweeps outside in nature, we wish for wind noise reduction. However, this is missing here, and in some outdoor situations, it can significantly affect hearing comfort. Spatial hearing can be a bit challenging at first, but once you understand how the microphones behave in certain situations, you can reasonably assess directions and distances. A few more frequency channels would be desirable, but with the existing 12 channels, it is already possible to work quite well.

Other hearing aids are already using artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but this strategy is still not implemented in the Naida Paradise 30 UP.

Rating Hearing comfort: 4,0

Operation & connectivity

How can you fully utilize the potential of hearing aids in everyday life? We found out what access options are available with the Naida Paradise 30 UP. Most of the time, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the Naida Paradise 30 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be deactivated if desired. A discreet way to change the hearing aid is the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person speaking is once again too quiet, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional listening programs for music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.

Voice commands are a relatively new way to operate hearing aids. However, we do not have this option in this model yet. That’s not a big deal - as long as you can hear well. Tap Control would have been an interesting feature. With this, you could change the function with a quick tap on the ear. But that is not yet available in the Naida Paradise 30 UP.

Hearing aid apps are becoming increasingly popular. With the Naida Paradise 30 UP, we are in luck: there is a suitable app. This app completely impressed us. Not only does it offer numerous options to adapt the hearing aids to personal hearing preferences, but the app also includes a lot of lifestyle features. One of the best features in the hearing aid is the direct streaming function. This turns the hearing aid into a TrueWireless headphone, allowing you to receive phone calls and other sounds directly in your ear. The prerequisite is a compatible smartphone that contains 2.4 GHz technology. The biggest advantage is that you hear phone calls not just in one ear, but in both. Additionally, the sound can be adjusted to personal needs.

Simplicity & security

Of course, we are also interested in how quickly one can get used to the Naida Paradise 30 UP and how easy it is to use on a daily basis. The automatic situation recognition is supposed to make listening easier. However, the Naida Paradise 30 UP struggles with changing or difficult acoustic environments, as it lacks a few adaptive algorithms. Additionally, one should always have a few extra hearing programs set up for this device. Some people find it hard to get accustomed, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is a fitting manager that gradually leads us to the required target amplification. The period can last a few weeks or several months, and it is individually adjustable. The increments are so small that you hardly notice there was an increase in volume.

Naida Paradise 30 UP relies on battery power instead of rechargeable batteries. Advantage: Very long runtime with a single battery. Unlike rechargeable solutions, you rarely have to worry about power supply. Disadvantage: Waste in the form of used batteries is generated. This hearing aid uses a hearing aid battery size 675.

The data sheet certifies the Phonak device with an IP rating of 68. This makes it one of the most resilient hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water does not enter the housing unless submerged deeper than 1.5m. However, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. In everyday life, though, you can behave completely carefree.

Rating Simplicity & security: 2,8

Extras

Everyone appreciates a few extra features, so let's see if we can find some here: A special tinnitus program is programmable in the Naida Paradise 30 UP upon request. This can generate stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from the tinnitus when it is particularly strong again. We find this very useful and are happy to award extra points.

The possibility of remote adjustment is something we really like. It is especially helpful when one just wants a minor change in the hearing aid settings but doesn't want to drive to the audiologist. Instead, contact is made through the app, and the hearing professional sends back a customized data package in the same way.

Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this Phonak model lacks the sensors for this service. This Phonak hearing aid does not have any other lifestyle options integrated. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you don't need that for good hearing. It would have just made the product a little cooler.

Rating Extras: 2,5
