Phonak presents the Virto Marvel 70 312, a model from the high-end price range. It can compensate for mild to moderate hearing loss. It is a small hearing aid that delivers good sound due to its position in the front part of the ear canal. It is worn in the ear.

Hearing comfort

First, we looked at the comfort features. The better these are, the easier and more pleasant the hearing experience becomes. With this hearing aid, we found only limited options for comfort adjustment. The traditional noise suppression ensures that uniform, unimportant sounds are slightly reduced. In the Virto Marvel 70 312, the noise suppression can be adjusted to the customer's preference. Unfortunately, this hearing aid does not yet have wind noise suppression. Too bad.

Unfortunately, we did not find a blast filter that reacts to short, loud sounds. Spatial hearing requires a bit of practice with the Virto Marvel 70 312. However, the adaptive microphone system provides quite good support in social situations. A high number of frequency bands helps separate speech from noise. The Virto Marvel 70 312 certainly stands out with its 16 bands.

Sometimes we encounter hearing aids that successfully process data with the help of artificial intelligence, but this device does not yet do so.

Operation & connectivity

Everyone has their own unique hearing needs. It is advantageous to be able to customize hearing aids beyond the automatic functions. In our test, we discovered the following access options: For those who want to quickly and easily adjust the volume louder or quieter, there is a button on the device. You can also select additional programs for special hearing situations through it. Those who do not like to touch their ear to adjust the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This allows for comfortable and discreet changes to the hearing aid.

We are always pleased when a hearing aid surprises us with an excellent additional feature. For example, we would have liked to see voice control at this point. However, this is currently not available in the Virto Marvel 70 312. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is tap control. This involves simply tapping your fingers on your ear, which triggers a specific function. However, this feature is not available in this Phonak device.

Smartphone apps are now often offered for better usability of hearing aids. In our opinion, the Phonak app is one of the better ones because it provides a good set of adjustment options. You no longer need headphones, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds directly from the smartphone to the ears – provided the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

Simplicity & security

Now let's take a look at how the usage in everyday life is structured. Is the handling easy? Do I get a safe device? The situational automation of the Virto Marvel 70 312 includes almost everything you can experience in daily life. It provides me with the perfect setting at all times, without me having to do anything actively. Especially during variable phases, this is extremely convenient and allows me to almost forget the hearing aid on my ear. The adjustment to the new hearing experience is supported by this device with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated. I don't have to do anything else but wear my hearing aids regularly.

Unfortunately, the Virto Marvel 70 312 is not equipped with a battery, so you need to regularly replace size 312 batteries for operation.

For a secure feeling in everyday life, a solid dust and moisture protection is also important. However, there is no IP certification available here. Presumably, this model is not really well equipped against incoming dust or moisture. This is outdated and detracts from the rating.

Extras

Everyone appreciates a few extra features, so let's see if we can find some here: A special tinnitus program can be programmed into the Virto Marvel 70 312 upon request. This allows for the generation of stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and are happy to award extra points.

Unfortunately, there is no option for remote adjustment. Therefore, anyone who needs optimization and wants to change their hearing aid settings will have to visit a hearing care professional.

Many hearing aids still come with a few health features today. However, since the Virto Marvel 70 312 does not have any special sensors for this, we cannot present any special characteristics. It would have been nice to have a few lifestyle features, but these are not available in the Virto Marvel 70 312. Other hearing aids can score points with language translators or fall alarms, but here it remains within the usual range of functions.
