The ReSound Nexia 5 60S-DRWC in review

Diese Technik wurde im Februar 2025 von den ReSound Vivia abgelöst ist daher nicht mehr ganz aktuell . Aus diesem Grund nehmen eine Abwertung in der Gesamtnote vor.

What hearing comfort does the Nexia 5 60S-DRWC offer? How is it operated? Is it worth the investment? Answers to these questions can be found in our review of this hearing aid from ReSound. First the basics: It is worn behind the ear, and thanks to the comfortable position of the speaker in the ear canal, sound can easily travel towards the eardrum. This is important because only in this way can a really good, broadband sound be produced.

The Nexia 5 60S-DRWC is a discreet, slim-shaped hearing aid at a rather high price that can cater to both mild and stronger hearing needs. Read more details:

ReSound has once again tinkered with the size of its hearing aids and created a form that is another 16% smaller - this simultaneously marks the launch of the new ReSound Nexia family.

Hearing comfort

We all agree that speech understanding is the most important task of hearing aids. From our experience in the hearing acoustics specialty store, we also know that hearing comfort is at least equally important. It is about processing background noises in such a way that they do not hinder speech understanding, while still creating a natural sound image. During the test of the Nexia 5 60S-DRWC, a solid comfort programming by the hearing care professional is possible. Let us take a look at the individual features:

Of course, this ReSound device has noise suppression, as that has now become standard. Noise suppression means that uniform and rather monotonous noises (e.g., air conditioning, vacuum cleaner...) are dampened. Here we are not necessarily dealing with a high-performance variant, but in most hearing situations, the noise suppression should be sufficient.

After all, the Nexia 5 60S-DRWC includes a so-called pop filter. But is that always enough? Those who enjoy being outdoors will appreciate the wind noise suppression. It does not dampen as strongly, but it is certainly useful. With 12 frequency bands, a pretty good sound can be adjusted. A passionate musician might not be completely satisfied with this, but for normal hearing and sound needs, this number is more than sufficient. The adjustable microphones help to recognize certain directions and can also assist with sound cancellation, but the spatial sound was not very natural.

Sometimes we encounter hearing aids that very successfully process data using artificial intelligence, but in this device, that is not yet the case.

For three generations of hearing aids, the still innovative M&RIE receiver has been the unparalleled third microphone in the ear canal, providing a comfortable naturalness.

Operation & connectivity

The control options for hearing aids today are as simple or as complex as one would like. The basic functions operate fully automatically, of course. We wanted to know how users can further access the Nexia 5 60S-DRWC. For those who want to adjust the volume quickly and easily, there is a button on the device. Additionally, other programs for special listening situations can be selected through it. A discreet way to change the hearing aid is via the remote control, which fits in any pocket. If the person you're talking to is speaking too quietly again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Extra hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.

In our testing, we found no option for voice control. Although this feature is not necessarily required, we would have appreciated it. We were quite impressed with the tap control during the test. Simply tap your ear briefly, and your ReSound hearing aid knows it should do something. We were already familiar with this sensor-controlled technology from wireless headphones, and it's great that such technology is now also available in hearing aids.

Setting volume or special functions via an app is already quite common today, and the Nexia 5 60S-DRWC follows this trend by providing us with an app. This app offers much more than just hearing aid functions and gives us a glimpse into what hearing aids could be used for in the future - besides good hearing. One of the best features of the hearing aid is the direct streaming function. This turns the hearing aid into a true wireless headphone, receiving phone calls and other sounds directly in the ear. The prerequisite is a compatible smartphone that includes 2.4 GHz technology. The biggest advantage is that phone calls can be heard in both ears, not just one. Additionally, the sound can be adjusted to personal preferences.

Finally, an end to poor audio quality while streaming. The new Bluetooth standard LE Audio promises significantly better transmission quality with less energy consumption. We have summarized the current Bluetooth capabilities in hearing aids in this article for you, along with the advantages and disadvantages: Bluetooth

ReSound: TV Streamer

ReSound Nexia 5 60S-DRWC: The new TV streamer from ReSound has a really small design. As big as a Post-it, just a bit thicker, it can be attached discreetly to the side of the case. However, you only need this transmitter if your TV is not yet equipped with the latest Bluetooth standard for direct pairing.

Simplicity & security

An important factor in the acceptance of a hearing aid is its practicality for everyday use. This includes, for example, automated functions as well as robustness and user-friendliness. The situation recognition integrated into the Nexia 5 60S-DRWC is rated as somewhat average. The most important loud and quiet situations are recognized and adapted. However, this is not entirely sufficient for acoustically more complex moments, and one cannot avoid further manual adjustment options. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is reached. We can relax and gradually get used to the new auditory impressions.

In our opinion, a very useful development in recent years is the integrated rechargeable battery. We are accustomed to recharging electronic devices in our daily lives. And the Nexia 5 60S-DRWC is rechargeable as well, allowing us to avoid the annoying battery replacements.

With an IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand various adverse influences. Dust cannot penetrate, it can endure prolonged submersion in water, and it is also protected against contact.

ReSound Nexia 5 60S-DRWC: The ReSound Premium Charger provides a built-in power bank in addition to the regular charging process, allowing for up to three charging cycles. Thanks to the securely closing lid, you can also take your hearing aids with you without worry.

Extras

At the end of our test report, there is still a little space for the extra features: ReSound has integrated a sound generator that plays some soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can help distract from the tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation. You get a very good added benefit from the offer of remote support. Through the app, you can contact your hearing care professional and describe your hearing problem. They can adjust the settings accordingly and upload them to the hearing aids via the app. For people with little time or a long commute, this is a great service. A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track some personal health data, for example. However, the Nexia 5 60S-DRWC does not offer this. This ReSound hearing aid has no further lifestyle options on board. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you don't need those for good hearing. They would have just made the product a bit cooler.
