ReSound presents the Quattro NEO 9 61-DRW as a model at a reasonable price from the upper mid-range. It can accommodate almost any hearing need. It is a small mini hearing aid that delivers good sound through the speaker position in the ear canal, close to the eardrum. It is worn behind the ear.

A good speech understanding is a given in modern hearing aids. Equally important is hearing comfort. Only when the ratio of speech transmission to the background noise level is right can hearing be perceived as pleasant. With 17 frequency channels, the Quattro NEO 9 61-DRW clearly belongs to the better devices and allows for individual, well-sounding programming.

The control options for hearing aids today are as simple or as complex as one might like. The basic functions operate fully automatically, of course. We wanted to know how users can further access the Quattro NEO 9 61-DRW. Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the Quattro NEO 9 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be deactivated if desired. A remote control is available for the Quattro NEO 9 61-DRW. It is quite practical, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume up/down option as well as various hearing programs.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from ReSound unfortunately cannot yet. It would be convenient when fingers are not as nimble or simply for those who like smart gadgets. This ReSound model does not feature control of the hearing aids with a simple tap of a finger, as certain sensors would have been needed in the housing for that.
As expected, we find a suitable application for smartphones. Here we are dealing with a powerful app that expects a lot from its user and provides a comprehensive toolbox. Problems with phone calls using the smartphone are a thing of the past with this device. Phone calls, music, and other sounds are completely wirelessly transmitted to the hearing aids. Headphones become unnecessary. We tested the wireless transmission during longer phone calls as well as for listening to music while exercising. Everything worked smoothly and fluidly. Only a compatible smartphone with 2.4 GHz wireless technology is needed.

Everyday hearing is facilitated by the good automatic program of the Quattro NEO 9 61-DRW. It is rarely necessary to use the manual hearing programs since the automation already covers many situations. The adaptation to the new hearing experience is supported by this device with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in imperceptible steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated. I just need to wear my hearing aids regularly.
The Quattro NEO 9 61-DRW gets its power from small disposable batteries that need to be changed every few days. While this is not rocket science, it should be considered, especially in the case of motor difficulties. A rechargeable battery would be much easier to handle.
We had a carefree daily life in our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then took out the hearing aids with wet hands - no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to foamy bathwater or saltwater.

There are quite a few people who are occasionally or frequently troubled by a ringing or buzzing in their ears. The tinnitus program in the Quattro NEO 9 61-DRW is basically just a sound generator. It aims to produce broadband sounds or noises that gently and pleasantly stimulate all areas of hearing. The tinnitus fades into the background and is no longer perceived as disturbing.
Real added value comes from the remote maintenance service. For a change in hearing aid settings, you no longer need to go to a specialist store; instead, you can directly contact the audiologist via the app. Through a cloud service, you can then load the new data package into the hearing aids. This is exactly what we expect from a modern hearing aid.
A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track, for example, some personal health data. However, the Quattro NEO 9 61-DRW does not offer this. The device from ReSound focuses on the essential hearing functions and does not provide extras like voice assistants or translation features. While that might have been fun, it is not necessary for a good listening experience.
