Hearing comfort

Right from the start, we focus on the topic of hearing comfort. By this, we mean all the features that ensure a thoroughly pleasant, rich, and disturbance-free sound. In the Savi 3 60-DRWC, we find only the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort.

The classic noise suppression is, of course, also present here. Its purpose is to recognize and mitigate simple sounds from the environment. While this ReSound model does have a very basic noise suppression, it only provides very light attenuation. Loud noises may be somewhat cushioned, but we did not really notice the effect.

For active outdoor enthusiasts, we always find wind noise management useful. While this device does have one, it is not very powerful. It cannot be individually adjusted either. We miss a natural spatial hearing with this device, which does pose some difficulties in everyday life. We can no longer reliably recognize directions. Anyone with limited vision should opt for a different hearing aid. With 12 frequency bands, it is possible to achieve a pretty good sound. A passionate musician may not be completely satisfied with this, but for normal hearing and sound needs, this number is more than sufficient. Sometimes we experience hearing aids that successfully process data using artificial intelligence, but this device does not yet fall into that category.

The Autoscope Adaptive Directionality from ReSound automatically adjusts the opening angle of the directional microphones to the background noise – the louder the environment, the narrower the focus. This specifically reduces disruptive background noise and significantly facilitates speech understanding.

Operation & connectivity

Most features of this ReSound model are activated automatically. However, it can be very useful to have the option to expand the functionality a bit. In our test, we found out which options are available. Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the Savi 3 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be deactivated if desired. A remote control for the hearing aid is available upon request. This allows you to adjust the volume effortlessly. The handling is not only child’s play, but no one will notice that you are adjusting your hearing aids.

Voice commands are a relatively new way to operate hearing aids. However, this model does not have that option yet. That’s not a big deal - the main thing is that you can hear well. There is no control of the hearing aids with a simple tap in this ReSound model, as it would have required specific sensors in the casing.

In our opinion, an app is better than a remote control, as everyone likely has a smartphone in their pocket. The app for the Savi 3 60-DRWC is really good; it has a lot of smart features that make hearing in difficult situations significantly easier. It is quite complex, but you can quickly find your way around. You can practice in demo mode. There are also a few surprising additional tools - have fun discovering! Problems with phone calls on the smartphone are a thing of the past with this device. Phone calls, music, and other sounds are transmitted completely wirelessly to the hearing aids. Headphones become unnecessary. We tested the wireless transmission during long phone calls and while listening to music during sports. Everything worked simply and smoothly. Only a compatible smartphone with 2.4 GHz wireless technology is needed.

No matter which technology level you choose: ReSound offers consistently modern connectivity options with LE Audio, Auracast, and direct streaming to compatible smartphones or other devices.

Simplicity & security

Another point on our checklist is handling. Does everything work easily and reliably? What does the hearing aid offer to ensure safe use in everyday life? The first points in the chapter on simplicity are lacking in the Savi 3 60-DRWC, as it does not have automatic situational adjustment. We have to readjust ourselves until we can manage the respective hearing situation. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It raises the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This significantly eases the acclimatization to the new sound.

Easy handling in everyday life definitely also includes power supply. The Savi 3 60-DRWC has a built-in rechargeable battery that can be recharged repeatedly. Since one charge is definitely enough for the whole day, we do not have to worry about the battery dying in the middle of a conversation.

We also take a look at the robustness of the housing and find the protection class IP 68 in the data sheet. This means dust cannot penetrate at all, and water only becomes a danger after prolonged submersion. Protection against contact is also included.

Extras

We have covered the most important factors in our test report. Before we finish, we are looking out for a few extras: Worth mentioning is the tinnitus program. Those who are plagued by annoying ear noises will benefit from it. Pleasant, soft sounds are adjusted to gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus sinks into the background noise and becomes hardly noticeable.

We find the remote maintenance service quite interesting. If one does not have the opportunity to visit the audiologist, they can contact them via the app instead, briefly describe their hearing problem, and then receive a data package with a new hearing aid configuration. If it sounds good, they upload it to their hearing aids.

Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this ReSound model lacks the sensors for this service. This ReSound hearing aid does not have any additional lifestyle options on board. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you don't need those for good hearing. It would have just made the product a bit cooler.

Thanks to interchangeable microphone filters, your ReSound hearing aid remains reliable in use – the replacement is straightforward and can be done by yourself.
