The ReSound Vivia 5 60S-DRWC in review
In this test report, we look at the Vivia 5 60S-DRWC. It was developed by ReSound and covers mild, moderate, and also severe hearing needs. This variant is worn behind the ear. The Vivia 5 60S-DRWC is a nice little hearing aid in a high-quality category. We achieve clear sound transmission through the cleverly chosen placement of the speaker in the ear canal.
With each new launch, proven techniques fall into lower price categories - like the Ultrafocus here. ReSound Vivia.
By the way: It might be worth taking a look at the sister models. In the high-end version "9" in the design "60S" (here's the test report), a second AI chip is installed. In the video, we explain how the new AI-supported noise cancellation works and what it brings:
Hearing comfort
We all agree that speech understanding is the most important task of hearing aids. From our experience in the hearing aid specialty store, we also know that hearing comfort is at least as important. It is about processing background noises in a way that they do not hinder speech understanding, while still creating a realistic sound image. In the test of the Vivia 5 60S-DRWC, the manufacturer provides customers with comprehensive noise management. Let's take a look at the individual features:
Of course, there is noise suppression in this ReSound device, as it has become standard. Noise suppression means that uniform and rather monotonous sounds (e.g., air conditioning, vacuum cleaner...) are dampened. Here we are satisfied with the effectiveness of the noise suppression. It can not only be turned on or off but also adjusted in stages.
We are pleased to find a good and efficient impulse sound attenuation here. This is definitely useful in everyday life as it noticeably absorbs slamming doors, clattering dishes, or similarly jarring noises. A relatively solid wind management is available in the Vivia 5 60S-DRWC and should be sufficient for daily use. We always take a close look at the number of equalizer bands. They are important for adjusting the sound of a hearing aid as accurately as possible to the hearing curve. Additionally, the speech noise management also takes place within these bands. The Vivia 5 60S-DRWC has 12 of them. That's okay. The spatial hearing has convinced us in everyday life. It's not true 3D hearing, but you quickly forget that when wearing the hearing aids.
Strategies based on artificial intelligence are not yet employed in this hearing aid from ReSound.
Hearing aids automatically adapt to the environment and optimize the microphones so that speech remains clear and understandable while important ambient sounds are preserved. This keeps hearing natural and effortless, allowing the brain to process sounds optimally. In particularly complex listening situations, a program switch can activate a focus program that directs the microphones forward to better understand conversations.
Rating Hearing comfort: 2,3
Operation & connectivity
Basically, the hearing aids operate fully automatically, and this is also the mode that most people prefer. However, sometimes it can be quite useful to switch to a different hearing program in a challenging situation or simply to adjust the volume. That’s why we take a quick look at the control options of the Vivia 5 60S-DRWC. The simplest control option is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has that too. It can be programmed according to your wishes. Do you want manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for gradual volume adjustment. Or do you need different special programs for your professional everyday life or hobbies? These can also be activated using the button. Those who want to keep everything in automatic mode can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. Upon request, there is a remote control for the hearing aid. This allows you to effortlessly adjust the volume. The handling is not only child’s play, but no one will notice that you are adjusting your hearing aids.
The modern form of control via voice command is not yet found in the Vivia 5 60S-DRWC. Control via finger tap requires that sensors are implemented in the hearing aid. This is indeed the case here. You can simply tap on the outer ear with a few fingers or the flat of your hand to trigger a command. This could, for example, be the activation of a TV adapter or answering a phone call. Your hearing care professional will make the exact configuration with you.
Controlling the Vivia 5 60S-DRWC via the associated app is relatively straightforward. It brings a lot of additional features and has quite impressed us. We particularly enjoyed using the equalizer in the test. As a normally hearing person, one might feel a bit envious since such features are not yet found in wireless headphones. For our digital everyday life, a streaming option wouldn't be bad. The device at hand fulfills our wish and comes with a 2.4 GHz radio module. This allows you to send phone calls and sounds directly from your smartphone to the hearing aids.
With the latest version of the ReSound Smart 3D App, you gain access to the Auracast Assistant – completely free of charge. This feature turns your smartphone into a universal receiver for Auracast signals, even if it does not natively support the technology. An icon on the home screen takes you to an overview of all available sources, making it easy and quick to connect.
Rating Operation & connectivity: 1,1

Simplicity & security
We continue our test and explore how easy this hearing aid is to handle. After all, it should simplify the everyday life of the hearing aid users and not complicate it further. The Vivia 5 60S-DRWC features a comprehensive set of stored hearing situations. When a typical pattern is recognized, the hearing aid automatically activates the correct setting, fully automatic. The device supports the adjustment to the new hearing experience with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated. I need to do nothing more than wear my hearing aids regularly.
The Vivia 5 60S-DRWC comes with a charger, as it has built-in batteries. This is contemporary, user-friendly, and what we expect from a modern hearing aid.
The data sheet certifies the ReSound device with an IP protection class of 68. This makes it one of the most durable hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water does not penetrate the casing as long as it is not submerged deeper than 1.5 meters. However, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of the water. You should also avoid saltwater. But in everyday life, you can behave completely carefree.
ReSound offers two battery chargers that ensure a reliable power supply for rechargeable hearing aids. The premium charging dock with an integrated power bank allows for up to three full charges on the go – ideal for travel or long days. The desktop charger provides a stable and fast charging solution for everyday use at home. Both variants offer convenience and flexibility.
Rating Simplicity & security: 1,3

ReSound Vivia 5 60S-DRWC: The premium charging case is the perfect solution for on-the-go. With its integrated power bank, the RIC hearing systems can be fully charged up to three times — anytime and independent of a power outlet. LED displays on the front and back indicate the current charging status, while the magnetic lid provides secure protection. This way, your hearing systems remain well supplied and protected, no matter where you are.
Extras
We are almost at the end, but perhaps this device still has a few gifts in the form of extra features? Let's take a look: We noticed the tinnitus option. Anyone who likes can have a special tinnitus program set up. This gently provides background noise to help distract from the annoying tinnitus if needed. The sounds can be customized to personal hearing preferences.
ReSound keeps up with the times and offers a forward-looking feature with the remote fitting service. Working individuals with little time can contact their audiologist online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Hearing aid users who have a longer journey to the specialist store also benefit from this special service.
Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this ReSound model lacks the sensors for this service. Other hearing aids already offer a few extended options like a fall alert or reminder functions. We don't find that here, and that's not too dramatic, because normal hearing functions are still the most important.
To ensure your hearing aids function optimally at all times, ReSound has developed interchangeable microphone filters. They protect against dust and moisture, prevent interference, and ensure consistently clear sound quality. Changing them is simple and can be done independently without a specialist. This saves time, costs, and guarantees you consistently excellent hearing.
