The Signia Active ITC in review

Diese Technik gilt inzwischen als überholt und wurde durch das Active IX abgelöst. Wir haben daher eine Abwertung in der Gesamtnote durchgeführt.

This time we tested a small hearing aid from the lower mid-range. It is the Signia Active ITC. It is worn in the ear and is intended for mild to moderate hearing loss. The device owes its acoustically optimal fit in the ear to its design, which is why it also delivers a nice, clear sound.

Hearing comfort

In the section on listening comfort, we look at how a hearing aid handles all the background noises. Comfortable noise management significantly contributes to a user liking their hearing aids and wearing them regularly. For this Signia device, we found only limited options for influencing comfort. The regular noise suppression has the task of softening uniform, ambient background noises. In the Active ITC, the noise suppression is solid. There are hearing aids with significantly more effective reduction, but this one should suffice for normal demands.

An impulse sound suppressor for short, sharp noises is sensibly integrated here and is completely sufficient for everyday use. When the wind sweeps through the microphones outdoors, we wish for wind noise suppression. However, that is absent here, and in certain outdoor situations, it can significantly impair listening comfort. The adjustable microphones help to detect specific directions and can also assist in noise cancellation, but the spatial sound was not very natural. With 8 frequency channels, we are not entirely satisfied in the ITC, but that should be sufficient for uncomplicated hearing curves. The sound may not be entirely natural as a result.

If the listening comfort is not sufficient for you, you can make further personalized adjustments in the app. There is a special mode that uses artificial intelligence. This allows countless real sound data to be used to help you effectively and purposefully.

Operation & connectivity

How can one fully tap into the potential of hearing aids in everyday life? We found out what access options are available with the Active ITC. Often there is a button on the hearing aid, but we did not find this feature in this model. Sometimes, a smaller design is preferred at the expense of this control element. This is not too dramatic, as most functions of the hearing aid run automatically anyway. If desired, there is a remote control for the hearing aid. This allows for effortless volume adjustment. The operation is not only easy as pie, but no one will notice that you are currently adjusting your hearing aids.

In the test, we did not find any option for voice control. This function is not absolutely necessary, but we would have liked it nonetheless. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap of the finger, without having to press a button. However, this feature has not been implemented here yet.

The app is definitely very useful. Anyone with a smartphone should download it. Even though the app is not one of our favorites, it is a useful addition to the Active ITC. We really enjoyed the direct, wireless streaming. This means that calls made on the smartphone are transmitted to the hearing aids without any additional accessories. This turns the hearing aid into the perfect hands-free device or wireless headphones. Listening to music or watching and hearing videos is incredibly comfortable as well.

The best alternatives to the Active ITC

Our database contains 3 reviews of hearing aids with similar technical features to this one (i.e., In the ear (ITE) in einer großen Ausführung in Size "", rechargable, geeignet für Hörverlust-Grad leicht & mittel). Here are the top 2 (Redaktionsstand 02.10.2025):

Simplicity & security

Another point on our checklist is handling. Does everything work simply and reliably? What does the hearing aid offer to ensure safe use in everyday life? We had expected a bit more support in daily hearing situations with the automatic situation recognition. While the situations "Quiet" and "Noise" are recognized, the sound environment is often a bit more complex. Some people find it difficult to get used to it, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is a familiarization manager that gradually introduces us to the required target gain. The period can last a few weeks or several months, which is individually adjustable. The individual stages are so small that you don’t even notice that there has been an increase in volume.

The Active ITC has a rechargeable battery. We find this very good, as rechargeable hearing aids are absolutely up-to-date. You don’t have to have batteries lying around everywhere, and you don’t have to change the battery in the middle of a concert. The hearing aid is simply placed in the charging station overnight and has enough energy for the following day.

We also take a look at the robustness of the housing and discover the protection class IP 68 in the data sheet. This means that dust cannot penetrate at all, and even water only becomes dangerous after prolonged immersion. Protection against contact is also included.

Extras

Lastly, we are interested in whether there are any additional goodies on top: We would have liked to discover a tinnitus program at this point, but unfortunately, there isn't one.

We find the remote adjustment feature very useful. It is especially helpful when you want to make a small change to the hearing aid settings but don't want to travel to the acoustician. Instead, you make contact via the app, and the hearing professional sends an adjusted data package back the same way.

There are no sensors in this Active variant, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, the steps taken throughout the day are counted. As mentioned, this hearing aid does not have that function on board. Other hearing aids do have a few extended options, such as a fall alarm or reminder functions. We do not find that here, and it is not dramatic at all, as the regular hearing functions are still the most important.

Conclusion: Signia Active ITC

This test device ranks in the lower positions in the overall result and lacks some features. We give it a score of 4.07. This is acceptable for less demanding listeners, but for a very active lifestyle, we recommend a hearing aid with more extensive comfort features.
