In this test report, we discuss the Insio 3 IX CIC. It was developed by Signia and addresses mild to moderate hearing loss. This variant is worn in the ear. The Insio 3 IX CIC is a small, barely noticeable hearing aid from a good, mid-range quality level. The clear sound transmission is achieved through the discreet placement in the ear canal.
With these mid-range in-ear devices, you can already enjoy some great support from the Signia IX technology. It gets even better in the higher categories.
Hearing comfort
One of our favorite chapters is hearing comfort, as it addresses one of the most important topics in conversations with our customers: background noise. Ideally, everyone would only hear speech and suppress all other sounds. However, it's not that simple. Without noise, our lives would sound very thin and empty. Therefore, hearing aids are designed to keep sounds in check but not eliminate them. With the Insio 3 IX CIC, solid comfort programming by the hearing care professional is possible. The mandatory noise suppression should respond to anything that produces a somewhat consistent hum, such as the heating or the extractor hood. In this device, there is a somewhat effective noise reduction. The Insio 3 IX CIC is also equipped for windy outdoor situations. The signal processing can identify wind and reduce it slightly. In our test, we also discovered impulse sound control. Short, popping sounds are dampened by it. This works fairly well here, but we are not quite in the top class. The Insio 3 IX CIC impresses us with its natural, spatial hearing. The outer ear retains its function, creating a 3D sensation as if no hearing aid were worn at all. 16 adjustable equalizer bands provide enough leeway to generate a reliable, precise listening experience. The signal processing is based, among other things, on typical frequency patterns of speech and noise, but artificial intelligence is not yet being used here.
In devices of this size, it is usually not common to use a directional microphone. However, Signia has integrated binaural OneMic directionality, which allows focusing on speech by reducing lateral noise. This requires data exchange between the right and left hearing aids. If your ear canal has enough space, the necessary Ear-to-Ear Wireless function can be integrated.

Operation & connectivity
Sometimes it's not so bad if you can adjust the volume of the hearing aid a little, for example, when the neighbor is loudly mowing the lawn or someone is speaking very softly with you. Many models therefore have special operating functions. You can use them, but you don't have to. We looked at this with the Insio 3 IX CIC: A very quick way to correct the volume is with the small button on the device. It is easy to feel, and you can adjust it louder or quieter in several steps. Additional programs for special listening situations can also be activated with it. If you want to forgo the button, you can simply have it disabled. Those who don't like to touch their ear to adjust the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This allows you to comfortably and discreetly make changes to the hearing aid.
In the test, we found no option for voice control. This function is not necessarily needed, but we would have appreciated it. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, a tap control could be conceivable, which would involve triggering a specific function by tapping your fingers on your ear. However, this option is not available in the Insio 3 IX CIC.
The almost common smartphone app is also available for the Insio 3 IX CIC. However, don't expect too much. There is a volume function and a program option, and unfortunately, that's where it ends. Wireless connectivity options are completely lacking in this version. This is not quite up to date anymore, but it is probably due to the small size of the hearing aid.

Simplicity & security
Another point in our checklist is handling. Does everything work simply and reliably? What does the hearing aid offer to ensure safe use in everyday life? The Insio 3 IX CIC features a solid everyday automatic function that is likely sufficient for a quieter life. However, for more complex hearing environments, we recommend the additional manual programs. Some people find it difficult to adjust, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is a familiarization manager that gradually leads us to the needed target amplification. The period can last a few weeks or even several months, and it is individually adjustable. The increments are so small that one hardly notices it when there is an increase in volume.
The Insio 3 IX CIC is not rechargeable. It continues to get its energy from disposable batteries size 10, which need to be replaced every few days.
The data sheet certifies the Signia device with an IP protection class 68 rating. Thus, it belongs to the most robust hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water does not penetrate the housing unless it is submerged deeper than 1.5 meters. Still, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, changes the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. However, in everyday life, you can behave completely carefree.

Extras
We are almost at the end, but maybe this device has a few gifts in the form of extra features? Let's take a look: A special tinnitus program can be programmed into the Insio 3 IX CIC upon request. This allows for the generation of stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from tinnitus when it is particularly bothersome. We find this very useful and are happy to award extra points.
A nice feature would be a remote maintenance service to receive help from a hearing professional even when you can't get to the store. But unfortunately, this is not available here, so no extra points are given.
A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track personal health data. However, the Insio 3 IX CIC does not offer this. This Signia hearing aid does not have any additional lifestyle options. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you don't need that for good hearing. It would have just made the product a little cooler.
