Hearing comfort

The G8 12 CIC provides customers with comprehensive noise management. A normal noise suppression is definitely present. It is intended to dampen constant sounds like street noise or the hum of the air conditioning. In our test device from Audio Service, we would rate the noise reduction as moderate. It is adequate if you do not live in a very noisy environment.
The noise filter in this hearing aid is quite solid and practical for everyday use. Wind is also a factor that can limit hearing comfort outdoors. However, the G8 12 CIC deals with it confidently and activates wind noise suppression in such situations. By the way, it is adjustable in stages. 18 adjustable equalizer bands provide enough flexibility to generate a reliable, tailored listening experience. With the G8 12 CIC, 3D hearing does not need to be reconstructed because it remains perfectly intact. This is made possible by its deep fit in the ear canal.

The majority of hearing aids automatically adjust to their environment. However, it is sometimes very practical to be able to make some changes oneself. After all, the hearing aid does not know how you are feeling at the moment. We looked at the control options that the G8 12 CIC has to offer: There is a button directly on the hearing aid. With this, you can change the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed according to the customer's wishes. The use is, of course, optional. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very practical. For us, this is one of the most comfortable ways to adjust the hearing aid louder or softer or switch to another hearing program. No one notices it; there is no need to touch the ear.
Voice commands are a relatively new way of controlling hearing aids. However, in this model, we do not have this option yet. That’s not too bad - the main thing is that you can hear well. There is no control of the hearing aids with a simple tap of the finger in this Audio Service model, as certain sensors would have been needed in the housing for that.
In the app store, we found an app from Audio Service for the G8 12 CIC. However, the app does not look very promising. We could not discover more than the basic functions. A wireless connection to a smartphone or laptop is not possible, as the corresponding hardware components are missing. One should think carefully about whether one can do without this feature, but why not just give it a try?

Here’s what we found: In the G8 12 CIC, we experienced effective automatic situational adjustment that supports our hearing well. This already ensures that we don’t have to constantly adjust the hearing aid. A great feature of this hearing aid is the automatic acclimatization. Especially when someone has been hearing poorly for a long time and then first wears a hearing aid, this is an enormous relief. The volume does not have to be immediately maximized. You can start at a lower level, and gradually and almost imperceptibly, the amplification approaches the target.
The G8 12 CIC relies on battery power instead of rechargeable batteries. Advantage: Very long runtime with one battery. Unlike battery solutions, you only need to rarely worry about the power supply. Disadvantage: It creates waste in the form of used batteries. This hearing aid uses a hearing aid battery size 10.
The data sheet certifies the Audio Service device with a rating of IP68. This makes it one of the most resilient hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water does not penetrate the housing, as long as it doesn’t submerge deeper than 1.5 meters. Nevertheless, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. However, in everyday life, you can behave completely carefree.

We all like goodies, so let's take a final look at the extras that may be hidden in the hearing aid. A special tinnitus program can be programmed in the G8 12 CIC upon request. This allows for stimulating, pleasant sounds to be generated that distract from the tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and are happy to award extra points.
An online contact to the hearing care professional via the app would be very helpful. This is already quite common today and provides assistance with minor adjustment problems. Unfortunately, Audio Service does not offer this, and thus does not earn any extra points.
Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this Audio Service model lacks the sensors for this feature. The hearing aid also foregoes additional functions such as special assistance systems, a fall alarm, or language translators. This is not a big issue, as it does not affect the important hearing functions.
