The Signia Pure 2 IX Charge&Go T in review

We are once again in the test lab, and this time we had a product from Signia in our hands, or rather, on our ear. The full product name is Pure 2 IX Charge&Go T, and it is classified among the devices in a good, medium quality range. Thanks to the speaker arrangement, which is discreetly placed in the ear towards the eardrum, it has good acoustic properties. The Pure 2 IX Charge&Go T is worn behind the ear and is a nice, discreet hearing aid for light, moderate, and strong hearing needs.

Hearing comfort

A good understanding of speech is a given in modern hearing aids. Equally important is hearing comfort. Only when the ratio of speech transmission to the level of background noise is right will hearing be perceived as pleasant. That’s why we take a look at the comfort features: With the Pure 2 IX Charge&Go T, we found very few options for comfort adjustment. Normal background noises like street noise, vacuum cleaner sounds, or the sound from a fan should be dampened by a classic noise reduction. In this Signia hearing aid, there is a rather simple noise suppression that is adequate in normal situations. However, it is worth considering higher technology levels.

After all, the Pure 2 IX Charge&Go T includes a so-called pop filter. But is that always sufficient? There is a basic wind noise reduction. Outdoors, this is certainly useful, but it is actually not enough for stronger autumn winds. We miss a good spatial sound, but the automatic focus can be quite helpful in situations with multiple people. With 12 frequency bands, you can achieve a pretty good sound. A passionate musician may not be fully satisfied with that, but for normal hearing and sound needs, this number is more than adequate.

For difficult hearing situations, Signia has a special strategy: In the app, you will find an assistance function that allows spontaneous and tailored adjustments based on artificial intelligence. This is a kind of intelligent immediate help if you are not close to your audiologist.

Operation & connectivity

Although hearing aids are now very intelligent, they still cannot read the thoughts of the hearing aid wearer. As a result, the automation sometimes reaches its limits. Individual adjustment options can be really useful, so let's briefly look at the options available with the Pure 2 IX Charge&Go T: First, we discovered a button directly on the hearing aid. This is very practical, as it is the easiest and fastest way to make adjustments. The volume can be adjusted through this, and different hearing programs can also be activated. If one prefers not to adjust anything directly by the ear, the button can of course be deactivated. Very handy is the small remote control, which is available as an option. For us, this is one of the most comfortable ways to increase or decrease the hearing aid volume or switch to a different hearing program. Nobody notices, and reaching for the ear is unnecessary.

In the test, we found no option for voice control. This feature is not necessarily required, but we would have appreciated it nonetheless. Tap Control would have also been an interesting feature. With this, one could change the function with a quick tap on the ear. But this is not yet available with the Pure 2 IX Charge&Go T.

An app on the smartphone is supposed to make operation easier, and we found one for the Pure 2 IX Charge&Go T. In addition to the basic functions like volume and programs, we find a few more buttons for personalization. One of the best features of the hearing aid is the direct streaming function. This turns the hearing aid into a TrueWireless headset, receiving phone calls and other sounds directly in the ear. A compatible smartphone that uses 2.4 GHz technology is required. The biggest advantage is that you can hear phone calls not just in one ear but in both. Additionally, the sound can be tailored to personal preferences.

Simplicity & security

To continue taking the perspective of hearing aid users, we naturally need a test for everyday suitability. Here’s what we found: There is unfortunately no powerful situational automation in the Pure 2 IX Charge&Go T. We have to settle for a few standard settings. Active hearing aid users will certainly encounter limitations here. The system aids in adjusting to the new hearing experience with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated. I just have to wear my hearing aids regularly.

The Pure 2 IX Charge&Go T comes with a charger because it has built-in batteries. This is modern, user-friendly, and what we expect from a contemporary hearing aid.

We had a carefree everyday experience in our test due to its IP-68 certification. This means that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then removed the hearing aids with wet hands – no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to bubbly bathwater or saltwater.

Extras

At the end of our test report, there is a little space left for the extra features: We were really pleased with the optional tinnitus program. There are quite a few people who are occasionally or frequently troubled by a ringing or buzzing in their ears. The tinnitus program in the Pure 2 IX Charge&Go T is essentially just a sound generator. It is about generating broad-spectrum sounds or noises that gently and pleasantly stimulate all hearing ranges. The tinnitus fades away and is no longer perceived as disturbing.

We find the remote adjustment feature really great. It is very helpful when you only want to make a small change to the hearing aid settings without having to drive to the audiologist. Instead, you make contact through the app, and the hearing professional sends back an adjusted data package in the same way.

A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track, for example, some personal health data. However, the Pure 2 IX Charge&Go T does not offer this. The hearing aid does not include additional functions like special assistance systems, a fall alert, or language translators. This is not a big issue since it does not affect the important hearing functions.
