We get a slightly visible hearing aid from a still moderate price category that is worn behind the ear. The cleverly chosen positioning of the speaker in the ear canal lays the foundation for good hearing success, as the sound has only a very short path to the eardrum. This ensures that all sounds reach the point where we want them.

Good speech understanding is a given in modern hearing aids. Equally important is hearing comfort. Only when the ratio of speech transmission to the level of background noise is right will listening be perceived as pleasant. This is why we take a look at the comfort features: With the Pure 3 AX Charge&Go, solid comfort programming by the audiologist is possible. Normal environmental noises such as street noise, vacuum cleaner sounds, or the noise from fans should be dampened by classic noise suppression. In this Signia hearing aid, the noise suppression is solid. There are hearing aids with a significantly more effective attenuation, but this one should be sufficient for normal needs.

Impulse noises are identified and reliably cushioned. This is noticeable, for example, with typical kitchen noises, or also with paper rustling or keyboard clicking. For windy situations outdoors, Signia has provided wind noise reduction. This is quite useful and is simply part of modern comfort features. Spatial hearing with the Pure 3 AX Charge&Go requires a bit of practice. However, the adaptive microphone system offers good support in social situations. With 12 frequency bands, you can achieve a pretty good sound. A passionate musician may not be entirely satisfied with it, but for normal hearing and sound needs, this number is completely sufficient.

Despite modern comfort features, tricky listening situations can still arise. For this, the Pure 3 AX Charge&Go has an assistance mode in its app. Underneath this is artificial intelligence that analyzes the current environment and calculates a noticeably better setting.

Operation & connectivity

How can you fully exploit the potential of hearing aids in everyday life? We found out what access options are available with the Pure 3 AX Charge&Go. The simplest way to operate it is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has it as well. It can be programmed according to your wishes. Do you want a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for a gradual adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional life or your hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. If you want to leave everything in automatic mode, you can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. A remote control is available for the Pure 3 AX Charge&Go. It's very handy, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume up and down option as well as different hearing programs.

For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids louder or quieter using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Signia is not there yet with this device. Don't worry about it; this feature would be nice, but it's not essential. Tap Control would have been an interesting function as well. With that, you could change the function with a quick tap on the ear. But this feature is not yet available in the Pure 3 AX Charge&Go.

It is very convenient to adjust the hearing aids via the app. There is also a free app for the Pure 3 AX Charge&Go. In our opinion, the range of functions is mediocre, but usually sufficient. It is best to try it out in demo mode beforehand. We really enjoyed the direct wireless streaming. This means that calls from the smartphone can be transmitted to the hearing aids without any additional accessories. This turns the hearing aid into the perfect hands-free device or wireless headphones. Listening to music or watching and hearing videos is also incredibly comfortable.

Signia Pure 3 AX Charge&Go: For iOS users starting from the iPhone 11, the AX family offers the option of true hands-free function. With other smartphones, you can hear through the hearing aids, but you still need to speak directly into the smartphone.

Simplicity & security

Next up in the test: How does it stand in terms of user-friendliness? Is it easy or complicated to handle the hearing aid? Typical hearing situations that everyone experiences in their environment are reliably recognized and adjusted through automatic settings. However, for more specific, recurring demands, one cannot avoid using the manual hearing programs. Some people find it difficult to get used to it, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is a familiarization manager that gradually leads us to the required target amplification. The duration can range from a few weeks to several months, which is individually adjustable. The individual steps are so small that you don’t even notice there has been a volume increase.

A great relief in everyday life is the integrated battery. With that, my Pure 3 AX Charge&Go always has enough energy for the whole day, and I no longer have to fear that the batteries will suddenly run out in the middle of an event. Even with limited dexterity, a battery system is very helpful because it eliminates the need for inserting small button cells.

With an IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand various adverse influences. Dust cannot penetrate, it also withstands prolonged submersion in water, and it is protected against contact as well.

You have a choice: Charge your hearing aids with the pocket-sized mobile charger with integrated power bank, or use the Charge & Clean. It can also effectively dry and disinfect the hearing aids.

Extras

Before we conclude, let's take a look at the extras: A special tinnitus program can be programmed into the Pure 3 AX Charge&Go upon request. This allows for the generation of stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and are happy to award extra points.

A real added value is the remote maintenance service. For a change in the hearing aid settings, one does not have to go to the specialty store anymore but can directly contact the audiologist via the app. Through a cloud service, the new data package can then be loaded into the hearing aids. This is exactly what we expect from a modern hearing aid.

For health-conscious individuals, there is a small special feature in the Pure 3 AX Charge&Go: health tracking. For example, steps can be counted throughout the day, and feedback on one's physical activity can be received. Sensors in the hearing aid track the individual data, which can then be read in the app. It would have been nice to have a few lifestyle features, but these are not available in the Pure 3 AX Charge&Go. Other hearing aids can score points with language translators or fall alarms, but here it remains within the usual range of functions.
