The Signia Silk 1 IX charge&go in review
To create a hearing aid test report, we take a close look at the hearing aids and, if possible, wear them ourselves for a while. This time it was the Silk 1 IX charge&go from Signia, a device from the budget segment that can compensate for mild to moderate hearing loss. The Silk 1 IX charge&go is a small, barely noticeable hearing aid that sits in the ear. Due to its precise placement directly in the ear canal, it has already met the basic requirements for a reasonable sound.
Hearing comfort
One of our favorite chapters is hearing comfort, as it deals with one of the most important topics in conversation with our customers: background noises. Ideally, everyone would like to only hear speech and block out all other sounds. However, it is not that simple. Without sounds, our life would sound very thin and empty. Therefore, hearing aids are designed to keep noises at bay but not make them disappear.
With the Silk 1 IX charge&go, we found few options for comfort adjustment. The mandatory noise suppression should activate for anything that generates a somewhat constant hum, such as heating systems or range hoods. In this device, we do have noise reduction, but it is not very effective and not adjustable.
We found a basic wind detection feature, but unfortunately, nothing can be adjusted there. The impulse sound management is not really recommended in this device. Short, loud noises still sound quite intense. Hearing aids like the Silk 1 IX charge&go maintain the natural spatial awareness we have experienced since childhood. The function of the outer ear, head size, head shadow effects—all these parameters create a genuine, authentic 3D hearing experience. Let's briefly look at the equalizer: With 8 bands, it is not particularly flexible. With a few more channels, we surely would have achieved a nicer, more natural sound experience. But at least, we can already tune the sound quite reasonably to our hearing perception.
Other hearing aids already use artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but this strategy is not yet present in the Silk 1 IX charge&go.

Operation & connectivity
Digital hearing aids have long evolved beyond just normal amplification functions. Apps and other control options significantly expand the range of functions, which is why we also look at this important topic with the Silk 1 IX charge&go from Signia. First, we are interested in whether there is a button on the device. Unfortunately, with the charge&go, we are disappointed; there is no immediate adjustment option. A discreet way to change the hearing aid is the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person opposite is speaking too quietly again, one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
In the test, we found no option for voice control. This feature is not necessarily necessary but would have pleased us nonetheless. Tap Control would also have been an interesting function. This would allow you to change the function with a short tap on the ear. However, this is not available with the Silk 1 IX charge&go yet.
We find the app for the Silk 1 IX charge&go to be somewhat sparse. It’s best to check the demo version before purchasing the hearing aid to see if it meets your needs. But we don't want to complain; the app is definitely useful. There is no connection option to other audio sources here. It's a pity, as a wireless streaming function would have offered real added value.

Simplicity & security
Our analysis also addresses the everyday usability of hearing aids. It involves robustness as well as special comfort features that should make daily use as easy as possible. When it comes to simplicity in hearing, we make no compromises. We expect the hearing aid to function fully automatically in the background without requiring us to constantly press any buttons. With the Silk 1 IX charge&go, we are somewhat disappointed. Only the basic situations are recognized automatically. This means that we cannot really get by without manual control options. The integrated acclimatization manager can be of great help when starting out in the world of hearing aids. Its task is to gradually increase the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until the target volume is reached. This way, you can relax and gradually get used to the new auditory experiences. More information about acclimatization and other hearing aids with this feature has been summarized here: Acclimatization to Hearing Aids.
Easy handling in everyday life definitely also includes energy supply. The Silk 1 IX charge&go has an integrated battery and is rechargeable. Since one charge lasts for the entire day, we don't have to worry about the battery running low in the middle of a conversation.
The data sheet certifies the Signia device with a rating of IP68. This makes it one of the most robust hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water cannot penetrate the housing as long as it is not submerged deeper than 1.5 meters. Nevertheless, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of the water. You should also avoid saltwater. However, in everyday life, you can behave completely carefree.

Signia Silk 1 IX charge&go:
Extras
