The Signia Silk 7 IX charge&go in review

Here we take a look at a hearing aid of excellent quality that is worn in the ear. It is called Silk 7 IX charge&go and comes from the manufacturer Signia. It can be used by anyone who has moderate hearing loss and desires a hearing aid of very small size. Due to the audiologically sensible wearing location directly in the ear canal, it has very good sound characteristics.

Hearing comfort

In the first chapter, we assess the quality of sound management. We call it listening comfort, because these features determine how pleasant the hearing aid wearer finds the sound of their hearing aids. However, sounds can be of various natures and require different tools for suppression. With the Silk 7 IX charge&go, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive sound management. First, we look at noise suppression. This is designed to tame everyday sounds like ventilation or refrigerator noise. In this Signia model, there is a quite respectable noise suppression for disturbing sounds. Even when it gets a bit louder, the listening experience remains pleasant.

There is also a so-called impulse filter here. It slightly cushions short and intense sounds. This is a useful function, but we would have preferred a bit more adjustability. The wind suppression here is very solid and satisfies us in everyday life. A brilliant listening experience is not least based on the number of frequency bands. The more bands there are, and the narrower the individual frequency channels are, the better the hearing aid can be adapted to individual preferences. Here we get as many as 20 bands. This not only allows for a great sound impression, but also enables very precise speech and noise suppression. The Silk 7 IX charge&go impresses us with its natural, spatial hearing. The outer ear retains its function, providing a 3D feeling as if one is not wearing a hearing aid at all.

Artificial intelligence-based strategies are not yet implemented in this hearing aid from Signia.

Rating Hearing comfort: 2,3

Operation & connectivity

The operation options for hearing aids today are as simple or as complex as one would like them to be. The basic functions operate fully automatically, of course. We wanted to find out how users can access the Silk 7 IX charge&go beyond that. There is no control element directly on the hearing aid. Due to space constraints, a button is sometimes omitted. We do like small remote controls, and we found one for this model. This allows for discreet adjustments to the volume or sound.

We are always pleased when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional feature. For example, we would have liked to see voice control here. However, it is currently not available in the Silk 7 IX charge&go. Tap Control would have also been an interesting feature. You could change the function with a quick tap on the ear. But this is not available in the Silk 7 IX charge&go yet.

The almost universally available smartphone app is also available for the Silk 7 IX charge&go. However, don't expect too much. There is a volume function and a program option, and that’s unfortunately where it ends. If you were looking forward to wireless streaming, we regret to inform you that a wireless module was unfortunately not integrated here.

Simplicity & security

In the next step, we want to address the topic of user-friendliness. Is the Silk 7 IX charge&go easy to use? Is it weatherproof? Do you have to do a lot to get by? Here are our answers: The Silk 7 IX charge&go performs really well in situation recognition. Anyone looking for a comprehensive and powerful fully automatic hearing aid that requires minimal manual adjustments will be well served here. The adaptive algorithms untangle the individual sound events in the environment and present the soundscape clearly and precisely. A great feature of this hearing aid is the automatic acclimatization. Especially for those who have been hearing poorly for a long time and are wearing a hearing aid for the first time, this is a tremendous relief. The volume doesn't have to be cranked up all at once. You can start at a lower level, and gradually and almost unnoticed, the amplification approaches the target.

An important aspect of everyday ease of use is definitely the power supply. The Silk 7 IX charge&go has a built-in rechargeable battery. Since a single charge lasts the entire day, we don't have to worry about the battery dying in the middle of a conversation.

The data sheet certifies the Signia device with an IP protection class of 68. This makes it one of the most durable hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water does not penetrate the housing unless submerged deeper than 1.5 meters. Still, be careful. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. However, in everyday life, you can behave quite carefree.

Extras

We all like goodies, so finally let's take a look at the extras that may be hidden in the hearing aid. A special tinnitus program can be programmed on request in the Silk 7 IX charge&go. This allows for the generation of stimulating, pleasant sounds that divert attention from the tinnitus, especially when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and gladly award extra points.

An online contact to the hearing aid acoustician via the app would be very useful. This is quite common today and provides help with minor adjustment problems. Unfortunately, Signia does not offer this and therefore does not earn extra points.

Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this Signia model lacks the necessary sensors for this service. The hearing aid also foregoes additional functions such as special assistance systems, a fall alarm, or language translators. This is not a big deal, as it does not affect the important hearing functions.

Rating Extras: 3,3

Conclusion: Signia Silk 7 IX charge&go

Make sure to consult about the advantages of a custom-made ear mold for these hearing aids. We believe that the optimal positioning of hearing aids in the ear cannot be achieved with temporary silicone covers.
