Could this hearing aid from the Signia company be the right one for you? In our test report on the Silk 3 X CIC, we highlighted the key aspects. We get a discreet, elegantly shaped hearing aid from a price range slightly above the average, designed to be worn in the ear. The precise placement directly in the ear canal lays the foundation for good hearing success, as sound has only a very short distance to travel to the eardrum. This ensures that all sounds reach us exactly where we want them.

The Silk 3 X CIC provides sufficient amplification for a mild to moderate hearing loss.

Hearing comfort

Hearing comfort determines whether someone enjoys wearing their hearing aids or not. That’s why we first looked at how the hearing aid handles background noise. For this model that Signia presents, solid comfort programming by the audiologist is possible. Naturally, noise suppression is integrated, which is meant to reduce annoying background sounds. In the Silk 3 X CIC, the noise suppression works rather average, but it is somewhat adjustable. For active outdoor enthusiasts, we always find wind noise management useful. This device does have one, but it is not very powerful. It cannot be individually adjusted either.

There is also a so-called impulse filter. It somewhat cushions short and loud sounds. This is a useful feature, but we would have liked a bit more adjustability. With the Silk 3 X CIC, you don’t need to reconstruct 3D hearing, as it remains completely intact. This is made possible by the deep seating in the ear canal. While the Silk 3 X CIC doesn't have many adjustable equalizer bands, the 12 it does have should be sufficient for good hearing results.

Sometimes we encounter hearing aids that successfully process data using artificial intelligence, but that is not yet the case with this device.

Operation & connectivity

Most features of this Signia model are activated automatically. However, it is sometimes very useful to be able to expand the range of functions a little. In our test, we found out what options we have here. Unfortunately, we couldn't find a button, which is a pity. Let's move on. We do like the small remote controls, and we found one for this model. This allows you to discreetly make small adjustments to the volume or sound.

We don't yet find the modern voice command operation in the Silk 3 X CIC. Tap Control would have been an interesting feature as well. With it, you can change the function with a quick tap on the ear. But this is not available here in the Silk 3 X CIC yet.

The app is not one of our highlights. But at least - there is one. And in times when virtually every hearing aid user also owns a smartphone, this is definitely useful. If you were looking forward to wireless streaming, we unfortunately have to disappoint you, as a wireless module has unfortunately not been integrated here.

Moving on in the test: How is the user-friendliness? Is it easy or complicated to handle the hearing aid? We expected a bit more support in everyday hearing with the automatic situation recognition. While the situations "Quiet" and "Noise" are recognized, the sound environment is usually somewhat more complex. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually get used to the new hearing impressions.

Unfortunately, the Silk 3 X CIC is not equipped with a battery, so regular Size 10 batteries are required for operation.

Unfortunately, this hearing aid does not have any special protection against incoming dust or moisture; in any case, there is no certification that defines the robustness of the device. It may not be very suitable for an active everyday life.

Extras

Sometimes hearing aids come with additional features that can be quite useful. Let's see how it is with this Signia device: A special tinnitus program can be programmed upon request in the Silk 3 X CIC. This allows for the generation of stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and are happy to award extra points.

A nice feature would be a remote maintenance service to get help from the hearing professional even when one cannot come to the shop. Unfortunately, this is not available here, so there are no extra points.

Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this Signia model lacks the sensors for this service. The hearing aid also foregoes additional functions such as special assistance systems, a fall alarm, or language translators. This is not a big deal, as it does not affect the important hearing functions.

In the overall view, this device ranks in the lower positions and provides us with little more than a solid basic configuration. Of course, it is possible to understand speech with this device, just like with all hearing aids, but not much is done to alleviate listening effort. Our overall rating: 4.69.
