The Unitron B Stride 3 UP in review
Unitron hat bereits einen Nachfolger am Start: das Unitron Vivante. Wir haben hier deshalb eine Abwertung in der Gesamtnote vorgenommen.
We are once again looking at a conventional hearing aid for moderate to severe hearing needs: This model is called B Stride 3 UP and comes from the company Unitron. It is worn behind the ear, and it is a normally sized hearing aid. The B Stride 3 UP is a model from the more affordable price range. Let's see if the pricing classification is justified.
Hearing comfort
We all agree that speech understanding is the most important task of hearing aids. However, from our experience in the hearing aid specialist store, we know that hearing comfort is at least as important. It’s about processing background noise in such a way that it does not restrict speech understanding while still creating a realistic sound image. During the test of the B Stride 3 UP, solid comfort programming by the hearing care professional is possible. Let’s take a look at the individual features:
Of course, this Unitron device has noise suppression, as that has become standard. Noise suppression means that uniform and rather monotone sounds (e.g., air conditioning, vacuum cleaner…) are dampened. Here we have to settle for a minimum level of noise suppression.
Furthermore, we are surprised at how well the impulse sound management works here. Nothing bangs, nothing rattles – very good! The B Stride 3 UP is equipped with incredibly good wind detection. Nothing stands in the way of a walk by the sea. The B Stride 3 UP has 12 adjustable frequency bands and thus falls in the middle range. A good audiologist can certainly extract reasonable sound from it. The hearing aid can autonomously align itself to the speaker in front, but we don’t get much more support for spatial hearing from the B Stride 3 UP.
Unitron has not yet incorporated artificial intelligence in this version.
Rating Hearing comfort: 3,2

Unitron B Stride 3 UP:
Operation & connectivity
Every person has their own unique hearing needs. It is advantageous to be able to further customize hearing aids beyond the automatic functions. In the test, we discovered the following access options: The simplest control option is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has that as well. It can be programmed according to your wishes. Do you want a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for gradual volume adjustment. Or do you need different special programs for your professional life or hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. Anyone who wants to leave everything in automatic mode can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. A remote control is available for the B Stride 3 UP. It’s quite handy, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume up-down option as well as various listening programs.
In the test, we found no option for voice control. While this function is not strictly necessary, we would have appreciated it nonetheless. Tap Control would also have been an interesting feature. With that, you can change the function with a quick tap on the ear. But this is not available here in the B Stride 3 UP yet.
The app is definitely very useful. Anyone with a smartphone should download it. Even though the app is not one of our favorites, it is still a useful addition to the B Stride 3 UP. We really enjoyed the direct, wireless streaming. This means that calls from the smartphone can be transmitted to the hearing aids without any additional accessories. This turns the hearing aid into the perfect hands-free system or wireless headphones. Listening to music or watching and hearing videos is incredibly comfortable.
Rating Operation & connectivity: 1,8

Simplicity & security
How does one cope with a hearing aid in everyday life? This is the next aspect we will evaluate. Because only if such a device works simply and straightforwardly can one come to terms with it. The program automation in the B Stride 3 UP provides us with relatively little support. Without a few individual hearing programs, one will probably struggle in a lively everyday environment. The adaptation to the new hearing experience is supported by this device with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is fully compensated. I don't have to do anything other than wear my hearing aids regularly.
B Stride 3 UP relies on battery power instead of rechargeable batteries. Advantage: Very long runtime with a single battery. Unlike rechargeable solutions, you rarely have to worry about the power supply. Disadvantage: It generates waste in the form of used batteries. This hearing aid uses a hearing aid battery size 675.
The hearing aid has been classified in the IP protection class 68. This guarantees comprehensive protection against the ingress of dust. Water also cannot easily damage the hearing aid. This makes it well-equipped for outdoor activities, where it can get wet and dirty. However, do not necessarily go bathing or swimming with the hearing aids. Bath additives or the salt content in seawater can alter the composition and may ultimately cause damage.
Rating Simplicity & security: 2,8
Extras
Before we come to the end, let's take a look at the extras: Here, we noticed the tinnitus option. If desired, one can set up a special tinnitus program. This gently masks the annoying tinnitus with a soft noise to provide some distraction. The sounds can be tailored to personal hearing preferences.
The possibility for remote adjustment is something we find really good. It is very helpful whenever one wants to make just a small change to the hearing aid settings but doesn't want to drive to the audiologist. Instead, contact is made via the app, and the hearing professional sends back a customized data package through the same channel.
If Unitron had integrated motion sensors into this hearing aid, it could even allow for personalized health tracking. However, this is not the case here. These points are lost for the B Stride 3 UP in the ranking. The device from Unitron focuses on essential hearing functions and does not offer extras like voice assistants or translation features. While that would have been fun, it is not necessary for a good hearing experience.
Rating Extras: 2,5
Conclusion: Unitron B Stride 3 UP
With a final grade of 3.14, this model holds its ground in the mid-range. It has a reasonably good comfort feature onboard, sufficient for typical everyday moments and creates a satisfactory listening experience.
