The Unitron DX Moxi 5 Jump R T in review

Dieses Gerät ist nicht mehr ganz aktuell. Mit dem B Moxi 5 R T ist bereits eine neuere Version auf dem Markt. Wir haben daher eine Abwertung in der Gesamtnote vorgenommen.

Unitron offers the DX Moxi 5 Jump R T, a barely visible hearing aid worn behind the ear. It is a mid-range hearing aid suitable for moderate, severe, and fluctuating hearing losses. The deep placement of the speaker in the ear canal ensures that sound reaches the eardrum without losses.

Hearing comfort

What is most annoying for hearing aid users? Exactly, background noise. That's why we first look at which comfort features the test device includes. With the DX Moxi 5 Jump R T, solid comfort programming by the hearing care professional is possible. Normal noise suppression is definitely present. It is meant to dampen constant sounds like street noise or the hum of the air conditioning. In our test device from Unitron, we are satisfied with the effectiveness of the noise suppression. It can not only be turned on or off, but adjusted in levels.

Short and sharp noises are usually bothersome, but this model features adjustable impulse sound control. This makes sounds like cutlery clattering, slamming drawers, or rustling newspapers less unpleasant. Wind is another issue that can limit hearing comfort outdoors. However, the DX Moxi 5 Jump R T handles this proficiently by activating wind noise suppression in such situations. By the way, this can be adjusted in levels. With 14 frequency bands, you can already set a pretty good sound. A passionate musician may not be completely satisfied with this, but for normal hearing and sound needs, this number is completely sufficient. Spatial hearing needs a bit of training with these hearing aids. While the movable microphones do help, the positioning on top of the ear shell means that the spatial sound is not like that of a normally hearing person. However, after a short adjustment period, spatial hearing works quite well.

The signal processing is based, among other things, on typical frequency patterns of speech and noise, but artificial intelligence is not yet being used here.

Rating Hearing comfort: 2,7

Operation & connectivity

The majority of the functions of this Unitron model are activated automatically. However, it can be very useful to have the option to expand the functionality a bit. In our tests, we found out what options we have here. A very quick way to adjust the volume is the small button on the device. It is easy to feel, and you can increase or decrease the volume in several steps. Additional programs for special hearing situations can also be activated with it. If you want to do without the button, you can simply have it deactivated. A discreet way to change the hearing aid is the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person you are speaking to is once again too quiet, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.

Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from Unitron unfortunately cannot yet. It would be practical when fingers are not as nimble anymore or when you simply like smart gadgets. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, tap control could be possible, which would trigger a specific function by tapping your fingers on your ear. However, this option does not exist in the DX Moxi 5 Jump R T.

The app is definitely very useful. Anyone with a smartphone should download it. Even though the app is not one of our favorites, it is still a helpful addition to the DX Moxi 5 Jump R T. A streaming option would not be bad for our digital everyday life. The device in question meets our wish and comes with a 2.4 GHz radio module. This allows you to send calls and sounds directly from the smartphone to the hearing aids.

Simplicity & security

Usability is the next aspect we want to address. It is about everyday practicality and the question of how easy and safe it is to navigate life with the hearing aid. The DX Moxi 5 Jump R T automatically accesses the most important hearing settings, making daily use easier. However, those who frequently encounter changing acoustic environments should have the manual additional programs configured. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It gradually increases the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This significantly facilitates the adjustment to the new sound.

A major relief in everyday life is the integrated battery. With this, my DX Moxi 5 Jump R T always has enough energy for the whole day, and I no longer have to worry about batteries suddenly running out in the middle of an event. An accumulator system is also very helpful for those with limited dexterity, as it eliminates the need to insert small button cells.

The DX Moxi 5 is almost dust and waterproof and, with its IP 68 classification, is certainly well protected against external influences.

Extras

Lastly, we are interested in whether there are a few additional goodies: A special tinnitus program can be programmed into the DX Moxi 5 Jump R T upon request. This allows for generating stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from the tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and gladly award extra points.

We find the remote maintenance service exciting, which can be used. If one doesn't have the opportunity to visit the audiologist, they can instead contact them via the app, briefly describe their hearing problem, and then receive a data package with a new hearing aid configuration. If it sounds good, they can upload it to their hearing aids.

Some hearing aids can track certain health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately do not have in the DX Moxi 5 Jump R T. The device from Unitron focuses on essential hearing functions and does not offer extras like voice assistants or translation features. While that would have been fun, it is not necessary for a good hearing experience.
