The Unitron V Stride 1 UP in review
Our testers have examined another hearing aid from the more affordable category. We present: the Unitron V Stride 1 UP. Here we have a traditional hearing aid that is worn behind the ear. It can be used by anyone who wants to compensate for moderate, stronger, and changing hearing losses. The V Stride 1 UP is a completely ordinary, medium-sized hearing aid. Is it worth buying this model? We will reveal the details to you.
Hearing comfort
Our first test category is listening comfort. Actually, we could also say sound comfort, as that's what it's mainly about. Does the hearing aid sound very technical or beautifully natural? Are too many background noises amplified, or do they stay quite well in the background? In this device from Unitron, solid comfort programming is possible by the hearing care professional. Noise suppression is a very traditional feature; it filters out all ambient noise and reduces their loudness. In the V Stride 1 UP, this only works to a limited extent. More than a very basic noise suppression is not included here.
The V Stride 1 UP is equipped with an incredibly good wind recognition system. Nothing stands in the way of a walk by the sea. Extremely useful is the impulse sound suppression. It captures all clattering, banging, and crackling noises and reliably dampens them. We always take a close look at the number of equalizer bands. They are important to match the sound of a hearing aid as closely as possible to the hearing curve. Furthermore, speech noise management also occurs within these bands. The V Stride 1 UP has 12 of them. That's okay. We miss a good spatial sound, but the automatic focus can be quite helpful in situations with multiple people.
Interestingly, artificial intelligence also plays a role in signal processing here. The sound is therefore not only analyzed based on typical frequency patterns. Particularly intense, noisy situations are perceived as more realistic and pleasant.
Rating Hearing comfort: 2,7
Operation & connectivity
Since you probably don't have your audiologist by your side at all times, it's quite helpful to be able to make changes to the hearing aid yourself. There are various control options, and we'll take a look at which ones the V Stride 1 UP has. The simplest control option is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has that too. It can be programmed according to your wishes. Do you want a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for a stepwise adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your work or hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. Anyone who wants to keep everything in automatic mode can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. A discreet way to modify the hearing aid is the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person opposite is speaking too quietly again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or for driving can also be activated with the remote control.
In our testing, we found no option for voice control. This feature isn't necessarily needed, but we would have appreciated it. In addition to buttons or remotes, some hearing aids also have tap control. This means you can simply tap your ear briefly, and then the device switches modes. However, we don't have that here at Unitron; it would have required specific sensors.
The manual operation includes an app. This allows for discreet access to the hearing aid. In addition to volume control, you can also adjust hearing programs and a few other functions. The V Stride 1 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and allows for binaural phone calls. This even gives us an advantage over normal hearing individuals. We find that great and are happy to give it points.

Simplicity & security
How does one cope with the hearing aid in everyday life? This is the next aspect we need to evaluate. Because only when such a device works simply and effortlessly can one get used to it. We would have wished for a program automation in the V Stride 1 UP that adjusts itself to the environment. However, this is not available, so unfortunately, points are deducted at this point. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can gradually and comfortably get used to the new auditory impressions.
The V Stride 1 UP is not rechargeable. It operates with hearing aid batteries size 675. Disadvantage: The batteries are disposed of after use. Advantage: The daily charging of batteries is eliminated, the hearing aid runs continuously for several days on a single battery.
The V Stride 1 is almost dustproof and waterproof, and with its IP68 classification, it is certainly well protected against external influences.

Extras
