The Unitron V Stride 7 UP in review

This test report presents the V Stride 7 UP from the manufacturer Unitron. Brief model classification: The V Stride 7 UP is a well-grippable, compact hearing aid that is worn behind the ear. It can compensate for moderate to severe hearing losses and is a hearing aid from the Advanced Class. A good sound is achieved through traditional hearing aids.

Hearing comfort

First, we evaluate the listening comfort features. What types of sounds does the hearing aid recognize? How does it handle them? Is the hearing aid suitable for a varied everyday life? Here with this test device, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive sound management. As in all hearing aids, we also find the typical noise suppression here. It is designed to reduce monotonous, noisy background sounds so that they are no longer so prominent. The manufacturer has made an effort with the V Stride 7 UP and included an efficient noise reduction.

Wind noise is always an issue when the hearing aid microphones are a bit exposed. With the V Stride 7 UP, this is not a problem at all because it has intelligent, effective wind noise suppression. This not only dampens the audible turbulence but also preserves speech understanding. Additionally, it features a really strong impulse filter that reduces all short, sharp sounds as much as the customer desires. With 20 channels, the frequency range in the V Stride 7 UP is very high. This allows the hearing aid to be perfectly adjusted to each individual hearing profile and offers good long-term tuning options. The spatial hearing has impressed us in everyday life. While it's not true 3D hearing, you quickly forget that when wearing the hearing aids.

Understanding speech in noisy environments is always a challenge. Unitron addresses this with the use of artificial intelligence. The result is brilliant and clear speech transmission, while the ambient sounds still come through at a realistically loud level.

Operation & connectivity

Buttons, switches, controls ... or would you rather have an app? Control elements can significantly expand the functionality of hearing aids. Is there something like that in the V Stride 7 UP? We checked. Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the V Stride 7 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be deactivated if desired. A remote control is available for the V Stride 7 UP. It’s quite handy, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume control option as well as various listening programs.

Voice commands are a fairly new way of operating hearing aids. However, we do not have this option in this model yet. That's not too bad - the main thing is that you can hear well. Tap Control would have also been an interesting feature. With that, you can change the function with a quick tap on the ear. But that is not available here in the V Stride 7 UP yet.

As is common today, we also find a smartphone app for the V Stride 7 UP. This app includes solid basic functions and adds a few goodies on top. We really enjoyed the direct, wireless streaming. This means that calls from the smartphone are transmitted to the hearing aids without any additional accessories. This turns the hearing aid into a perfect hands-free device or wireless headphones. Listening to music or watching and listening to videos is incredibly comfortable.

Simplicity & security

An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its practicality in everyday life. This includes, for example, automated functions as well as robustness and user-friendliness. A well-functioning situational awareness creates a lot of relaxation in daily hearing experiences. One does not have to constantly switch settings on the device and can easily rely on automated adjustments. The adjustment to the new hearing experience is supported by a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is fully compensated. I don't have to do anything other than wear my hearing aids regularly.

The V Stride 7 UP is not rechargeable. It operates using hearing aid batteries size 675. Disadvantage: The batteries are disposed of after use. Advantage: The daily charging of rechargeable batteries is eliminated, and the hearing aid runs continuously for several days on one battery.

With an IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand various adverse influences. Dust cannot penetrate, it can withstand prolonged immersion in water, and it is also protected against contact.

Extras

As there is more and more storage space available in apps or the hearing aids themselves, it's worth taking a look at possible extra features. Here’s how it looks: Do you suffer from tinnitus? Then you might consider using the optional tinnitus program in the V Stride 7 UP. Soft, gentle sounds are tailored to your hearing and engage all areas of the inner ear. It’s nothing more than a distraction maneuver, and it works surprisingly well. The tinnitus fades into the general noise and is no longer annoying. It’s a simple but effective tool and earns extra points from us.

Unitron keeps up with the times and offers a future-oriented feature with the remote setting service. Busy people with little time can contact their audiologist online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Hearing aid users who have a longer commute to the specialist store also benefit from this special service.

Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this Unitron model lacks the sensors for this service. The hearing aid also forgoes additional features like special assistance systems, a fall alarm, or speech translators. This is not a major issue, as it does not affect the essential hearing functions.
