The Widex Magnify 60 mRIC R D in review
The Magnify 60 mRIC R D from Widex is a small, barely visible hearing aid that is worn behind the ear. By using it as the speaker that sits directly in the ear canal, very good sound transmission is possible. The Magnify 60 mRIC R D is an affordable hearing aid suitable for nearly every hearing need.
With the rechargeable hearing aids, Widex has now completed its Magnify family.
Hearing comfort
First, we looked at the comfort features. The better they are, the easier and more pleasant the listening experience becomes. In this hearing aid, we find only the absolute essentials when it comes to hearing comfort. The traditional noise suppression helps to slightly reduce uniform, unimportant sounds. In the Magnify 60 mRIC R D, it works only very limitedly. Looking at the price, this might be acceptable. We searched in vain for wind management; there is no wind noise reduction here.
Points are deducted for the lack of impulse sound suppression. Normally, this dampens short, clattering sounds. But those who choose this hearing aid should not let that bother them. The hearing aid automatically decides whether the microphones should be directed towards a speaker or not. One gets a decent spatial impression, but precisely determining directions or estimating distances through hearing is not so easy. As for the number of adjustable equalizer bands, we are dealing with 6 in a rather simple device. Of course, it can be understood, but the sound is not quite what we would actually wish for.
An exciting topic in audiology is the use of artificial intelligence, but this feature is not yet implemented in this Widex model.

Operation & connectivity
Most hearing aids automatically adapt to their environment. However, it is sometimes very practical to be able to make adjustments oneself. After all, the hearing aid does not know how you are feeling at the moment. We looked into the control options offered by the Magnify 60 mRIC R D: For those who want to quickly and easily adjust the volume, there is a button on the device. Additional programs for special listening situations can also be selected through it. A discrete way to change the hearing aid is via the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person you are talking to speaks too quietly again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids louder or quieter using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Widex is not there yet with this device. Don't worry, this feature would be nice, but it is not essential. This Widex model does not have control of the hearing aids with a simple tap, as certain sensors would have been needed in the housing for that.
As is common today, we also find a smartphone app for the Magnify 60 mRIC R D. This app includes solid basic functions and adds a few bonuses. One of the best features of the hearing aid is the direct streaming function. This turns the hearing aid into a TrueWireless headphone, allowing it to receive phone calls and other sounds directly in the ear. The prerequisite is a compatible smartphone that has 2.4 GHz technology. The biggest advantage is that you hear phone calls in both ears, not just one. Additionally, the sound can be adjusted to personal preferences.
Especially when choosing devices that do not provide automatic and extensive technical support, you can make life a little easier with Widex Bluetooth accessories.
Rating Operation & connectivity: 2,0

Widex Magnify 60 mRIC R D: With its 6 functions (table and partner microphone, telephone calls, audio transmission, telecoil, and remote control), the small accessory is truly a helpful support for all listening situations.

Simplicity & security
Now let's take a look at how the usage is in everyday life. Is the handling easy? Do I get a safe device? We would have liked to see an automatic program in the Magnify 60 mRIC R D that adapts itself to the surroundings. However, that is not available, so unfortunately, we have to deduct points at this point. Very important to us regarding simplicity is the support during the acclimatization process. Especially after having heard poorly for years, it can sometimes be difficult to perceive everything at a natural volume. Our test device has an acclimatization manager that helps us with very small volume adjustments throughout the acclimatization phase. After a few weeks or months, we then reach the calculated amplification level.
A charger is included with the Magnify 60 mRIC R D, as it has built-in batteries. This is modern, user-friendly, and we expect this from a contemporary hearing aid.
We had a carefree everyday life in our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then took out the hearing aids with wet hands – no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only refers to fresh, natural water and not to soapy bathwater or saltwater.

Widex Magnify 60 mRIC R D:
Extras
Finally, let's take a quick look at whether there are any additional features: Here we noticed the tinnitus option. If someone wishes, they can have a special tinnitus program set up. This lays a gentle noise over the ears to distract a bit from the annoying tinnitus. The sounds can be designed according to personal hearing preferences.
The remote adjustment feature is really great. It is very helpful whenever you want to change just a small detail in the hearing aid settings but don't want to drive to the audiologist. Instead, you make contact through the app, and the hearing professional sends a customized data package back in the same way.
There are no sensors in this Magnify 60 variant, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered. This feature counts the steps taken throughout the day, for example. As mentioned, this hearing aid does not have this functionality on board. This Widex hearing aid does not have any additional lifestyle options. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but for good hearing, you don’t need that. It would have just made the product a bit cooler.
