Once again, we are focusing on a hearing aid from the company Widex. This time, it is a traditional behind-the-ear hearing aid named Moment 440 BTE 312. It is a discreetly designed, slim hearing aid, and it falls into the higher price segment of the hearing aid prices. It can be used for both mild and more severe hearing needs. Let's see what the interior has to offer:
Hearing comfort
We all agree that speech understanding is the most important task of hearing aids. However, from our experience in the hearing acoustics retail business, we also know that hearing comfort is at least equally important. This involves processing background noise in such a way that it does not impair speech understanding, while still creating a realistic sound image. During the test of the Moment 440 BTE 312, a solid comfort programming by the hearing care professional is possible. Let us take a look at the individual features:
Of course, this Widex device has noise suppression, as that has become standard now. Noise suppression means that uniform and rather monotone sounds (e.g. air conditioning, vacuum cleaner ...) are dampened. Here, there is a considerable and well-functioning noise reduction included.
Quickly occurring, rattling sounds are noticeably and adequately dampened, which we find pleasant. The Moment 440 BTE 312 impresses us with its wind reduction and offers good performance in this regard. 15 adjustable equalizer bands provide enough room to generate a reliable, tailored listening experience. Directional hearing often needs a little support for hearing aid users. The Moment 440 BTE 312 provides this support confidently and allows for good spatial orientation.

Operation & connectivity
The operating options of hearing aids today are as simple or as complex as anyone would like. The basic functions, of course, run fully automatically. We wanted to know how a user can further access the Moment 440 BTE 312. First, we discovered a button directly on the hearing aid. This is very practical, as it is the easiest and fastest way to make a change. The volume can be adjusted through this, and different hearing programs can also be activated. If someone prefers not to make any adjustments directly at the ear, the button can, of course, also be deactivated. Upon request, there is a remote control for the hearing aid. With it, the volume can be effortlessly adjusted. The handling is not only child’s play, but no one will notice that you are currently adjusting your hearing aids.
We always get excited when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional feature. For example, we would have liked to see voice control at this point. However, there is currently no such feature in the Moment 440 BTE 312. Another option to control the hearing aids is a tap control. You simply tap your fingers on your ear, which in turn triggers a specific function. However, this feature is not available in this Widex device.
An app for individual operation is available free of charge. Here, we only find normal functions that are useful, but the app is not really fun to use. The hearing aid can also be used as a headset, requiring a small additional device. When clipped to the collar, the entire multimedia world is open to you. Smartphone, tablet, laptop – all Bluetooth-enabled devices can be wirelessly connected to the hearing aid.

The Moment 440 BTE 312 performs exceptionally well in situation recognition. Those who want a comprehensive and powerful full automation in the hearing aid and want to adjust it as little as possible will find it perfectly suited for their needs. The adaptive algorithms untangle the individual sound events in the environment and present the soundscape clearly and precisely. Some people find it difficult to get used to, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is a familiarization manager that gradually guides us to the required target amplification. The duration can range from a few weeks to several months and is individually adjustable. The individual steps are so small that one hardly notices a volume increase.
Unfortunately, the Moment 440 BTE 312 is not equipped with a rechargeable battery, so regular size 312 batteries are required for operation.
With an IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand various adverse conditions. Dust cannot penetrate, it can withstand prolonged submersion in water, and it is also protected against contact.

Am Ende unseres Testberichtes gibt es noch ein bisschen Platz für die Extra-Features: Widex hat einen Geräuschgenerator integriert, der für Tinnitus-Geplagte ein paar lindernde Klänge abspielt. Das kann vom Tinnitus ablenken und für etwas mehr Entspannung sorgen.
Ein cleveres Tool ist der integrierte Fernwartungsservice. Fast jeder hat ein Smartphone, und Zeit ist ein knappes Gut. Deshalb ist so ein Fernwartungsservice absolut angemessen. Wer eine neue Programmierung seiner Hörgeräte benötigt, kann ganz einfach über die App Kontakt zum Akustiker aufnehmen und seine Hörwünsche beschreiben. Über einen Cloud-Service kann der Profi dann eine individuelle Einstellung als Datenpaket in die App schicken. Von dort wird sie aufs Hörgerät geladen und kann sofort ausprobiert werden. Das verdient auf jeden Fall Extrapunkte in unserem Test.
Ein neuer Trend in der Hörgerätebranche sind integrierte Sensoren, mit denen z.B. ein paar persönliche Gesundheitsdaten getrackt werden können. Das hat das Moment 440 BTE 312 aber nicht im Angebot. Bei anderen Hörgeräten gibt es schon ein paar erweiterte Optionen wie einen Sturzalarm oder Erinnerungsfunktionen. Hier finden wir das nicht, und das ist auch gar nicht so dramatisch, denn die normalen Hörfunktionen sind immer noch am wichtigsten.
