Widex offers the Moment Sheer 110 sRIC R D, a discreetly designed hearing aid that is worn behind the ear. It is a hearing aid from the affordable segment and is suitable for mild, moderate, and also severe hearing needs. The deep placement of the speaker in the ear canal ensures that sound reaches the eardrum without loss.
Hearing comfort
The hearing comfort determines whether someone enjoys wearing their hearing aids or not. Therefore, we first looked at how the hearing aid handles background noise. In this model presented by Widex, we find only the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. Of course, noise suppression is integrated, which is supposed to mitigate exhausting background noise. Currently, with the Sheer 110 sRIC R D, we’re not exactly spoiled, but we can manage well with simple noise suppression. When the wind howls over the microphones outdoors, we wish for wind noise reduction. However, that is missing here, and in some outdoor situations, this can significantly impair hearing comfort.
A filter for clattering, popping sounds is not present here – unfortunately, that’s a point against it. We cannot produce true 3D spatial sound with the current test device. Especially outdoors, one should often look around to see where individual sound sources are located. However, focusing on a specific speaker works quite well thanks to the integrated directional microphones. One last word on the equalizer: With 6, the number of adjustable bands is quite low. If you are satisfied with the fundamental character of the hearing aid, this might be enough. But for music lovers, we would recommend a higher number of channels.
An exciting topic in audiology is the use of artificial intelligence, but this is not yet applied in this Widex model.

In our test, we discovered the following access options: For those who want to quickly and easily adjust the volume, there is a button on the device. You can also select additional programs for special hearing situations through it. A remote control is available for the Moment Sheer 110 sRIC R D. It's quite practical, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume up/down option as well as different hearing programs.
The modern method of controlling via voice command is not yet found in the Moment Sheer 110 sRIC R D. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is a tap control. An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its practicality in everyday life. This includes, for example, automated functions as well as robustness and user-friendliness. Unfortunately, the simple hearing capability of the Moment Sheer 110 sRIC R D is not very good. The situational automatic feature is quite limited, providing us with little support when it gets loud around us. One can compensate for this by using the manual adjustment options. However, this does not score many points in terms of simplicity. A key aspect of ease of use for us is the support during the adjustment period. Especially after having heard poorly for years, it is sometimes difficult to perceive everything at a natural volume. Our test device has an acclimatization manager that helps us through the adjustment phase with very small volume adjustments. After a few weeks or months, we then reach the calculated amplification level.
The Moment Sheer 110 sRIC R D is rechargeable and no longer requires batteries. This is not only environmentally friendly but also very convenient to handle and frees me from the burden of constantly having to think about battery replacements.
In our test, we had a carefree daily life due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and subsequently took out the hearing aids with wet hands - no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to foamy bath water or saltwater.

Finally, let's briefly look at whether there are any extras: Worth mentioning is the tinnitus program. Those troubled by annoying ear noises will benefit from it. Pleasant, soft sounds are set up to gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus blends into the soundscape and is hardly noticeable anymore.
A very good additional benefit is provided by the remote support offer. Through the app, you can contact your audiologist and describe your hearing issue. They can adjust the settings accordingly and load them into the hearing aids via the app. This is a great service for people with little time or a long commute.
Many hearing aids today still come with a few health functions. However, since the Moment Sheer 110 sRIC R D does not have any specific sensors for this, we cannot present any special features here. It would have been nice to have some lifestyle functions, but those are not available in the Moment Sheer 110 sRIC R D. Other hearing aids may feature a speech translator or fall alert, but here it remains within the usual scope of functions.
