It can accommodate both mild and more severe hearing needs and is a hearing aid from the upper price segment. A good sound is achieved through the receiver (= speaker) that fits directly in the ear canal.
Hearing comfort
First, we assess the hearing comfort features. What types of sounds does the hearing aid recognize? How does it handle them? Is the hearing aid suitable for a diverse everyday life? With this test device, a solid comfort programming by the audiologist is possible. As with all hearing aids, we also find the typical noise reduction here. It is supposed to reduce monotonous, noisy background sounds to the point where they are no longer at the forefront. With the SmartRIC 220 mini RITE R, we find rather below-average noise reduction. Noise-sensitive individuals will have to make some compromises when it comes to hearing comfort.
We searched in vain for wind management; there is no wind noise reduction here. The SmartRIC 220 mini RITE R also features impulse sound suppression. It reliably detects all short, clattering sounds, but the reduction is rather minimal. Let's also look at the number of equalizer bands: the device from Widex has 10. We are not really happy with that; the options for sound shaping are quite limited. However, it is sufficient for good speech understanding. Adaptive microphone systems facilitate spatial hearing. But you have to get used to the new sound a bit; especially at the beginning, it can be difficult to clearly determine the source of a noise.
If the hearing comfort is not enough at times, you can make additional, highly personal settings in the app. There is a special mode that uses artificial intelligence. This allows countless real sound data to be used to help you effectively and specifically.
