The Audio Service BP7 3 HdO in review

Die Technik dieser Gerätefamilie ist bereits überholt. Wir haben die Bewertung deshalb mit einem Abschlag in der Gesamtnote versehen. Zur neuesten Chiptechnik des Herstellers geht es hier entlang: Audio Service G8

Today we have a hearing aid, as known from earlier times, called BP7 3 BTE on our test agenda. The manufacturer Audio Service has designed it for moderate, stronger, and changing hearing losses and for wearing behind the ear. Price-wise, it is a model at the lowest price level. So, let's take a look:

Hearing comfort

Right from the start, we are dealing with the topic of hearing comfort. By this, we mean all the features that ensure a pleasant, rich, and disturbance-free sound. In the BP7 3 HdO, we find only the absolute necessities regarding hearing comfort.

The classic noise suppression is, of course, also present here. Its task is to detect and slightly mitigate simple sounds from the environment. In this audio service model, it only works very limitedly. If we take a look at the price, this could indeed be fitting. A filter for rattling or popping noises is not available here – unfortunately, that’s a downside.

When the wind sweeps over the microphones outdoors, we wish for wind noise reduction. However, this is missing here, and in some outdoor situations, it can significantly impair hearing comfort. Unfortunately, nothing can be said about spatial hearing here; the microphones have no additional function that could enhance directional hearing. The equalizer in the BP7 3 HdO only offers 6 bands. This means that any desired changes can only affect quite large frequency ranges. So, one alters quite a lot at once, and the small nuances cannot be implemented. Strategies based on artificial intelligence are not yet being used in this hearing aid from Audio Service.

Rating Hearing comfort: 5,3

Operation & connectivity

Would you like to be able to adjust something on your hearing aids yourself? We believe it can be quite useful to have some control options. Let's take a look at how it's done with the BP7 3 HdO. For those who want to quickly and easily turn the volume up or down, there is a button on the device. You can also select additional programs for special hearing situations through it. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very practical. For us, it's one of the most convenient ways to adjust the hearing aid volume or switch to another hearing program. No one notices it, and there's no need to touch your ear.

We are always excited when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional function. For example, we would have liked to see voice control at this point. However, this feature is currently not available in the BP7 3 HdO. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, tap control could be possible, which would mean triggering a specific function by tapping your fingers on your ear. However, this option is not available in the BP7 3 HdO.

A very typical control option today is smartphone apps. The BP7 3 HdO also has an app. With it, you can intuitively adjust the volume or change programs. You can't really go wrong with this, as there isn't much more functionality. If you were looking forward to wireless streaming, we regret to inform you that a wireless module was unfortunately not integrated here.

The best alternatives to the BP7 3 HdO

Simplicity & security

We continue our test and try out how easy this hearing aid is to handle. After all, it should simplify the everyday life of hearing aid users and not complicate it further. We classify the integrated situation recognition in the BP7 3 HdO as rather average. The most important loud and quiet situations are recognized and adapted. However, this is not quite sufficient for acoustically more complex moments, as further manual adjustment options are unavoidable. Some people find it difficult to get used to it, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is a familiarization manager that gradually leads us to the required target amplification. The period can last a few weeks or even several months, and this can be individually adjusted. The individual steps are so small that you hardly notice that there has just been a volume increase.

The BP7 3 HdO is not rechargeable; it operates with hearing aid batteries. Unlike a rechargeable battery, it doesn't need to be charged daily, but the size 13 battery needs to be replaced after a few days.

We also take a look at the robustness of the housing and discover in the data sheet the protection class IP 68. This prevents dust from penetrating, and water only becomes dangerous after prolonged submersion. Touch protection is also included.

Rating Simplicity & security: 2,3

Extras

Before we come to the end, let's take a look at the extras: For example, a tinnitus option would be interesting. Unfortunately, we did not find any way to alleviate tinnitus in the BP7 3 HdO.

Audio Service is keeping up with the times and offers a forward-thinking feature with the remote adjustment service. Busy people with little time can contact their audiologist online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Hearing aid users who have a longer travel distance to the specialist store also benefit from this special service.

Some hearing aids can track certain health data. However, this requires specific sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately do not have in the BP7 3 HdO. The device from Audio Service focuses on the essential hearing functions and does not offer extras like voice assistants or translation functions. While that would have been fun, it is not necessary for a good hearing experience.

Rating Extras: 3,3

Conclusion: Audio Service BP7 3 HdO

In summary, this device ranks in the lower positions and provides us with little more than a solid basic setup. Of course, you can understand speech with the device, just like with all hearing aids, but not much is done to alleviate listening effort. Our overall rating: 4.55. Please always consider this rating in relation to the price range of this hearing aid.
