Hansaton presents the flow+ 10 IIC, a model from the basic price segment. It can compensate for both mild and more significant hearing needs. It is a tiny, barely noticeable hearing aid that delivers good sound due to its invisible and imperceptible position deep in the ear canal. It is worn in the ear.

Hearing comfort

First, we looked at the comfort features. The better these are, the easier and more pleasant the listening experience becomes. A solid comfort programming by the hearing care professional is possible with this hearing aid. The traditional noise suppression ensures that uniform, unimportant sounds are slightly reduced. The flow+ 10 IIC includes a remarkable, well-functioning noise reduction. Those who enjoy being outdoors will appreciate this Hansaton device. Normally, wind noise can be somewhat bothersome. However, it doesn't matter here, as the outer ear provides good mechanical protection.

Quick, sharp sounds are detected here but only moderately reduced. Tools for spatial hearing are lacking, yet we still give it the full score. Spatial hearing is preserved because the hearing aid sits directly in the ear canal. And this is where sound reaches non-hearing aid users as well. This is a real advantage of this specific, small design. A few more frequency channels would be desirable, but the existing 12 channels already allow for quite good functionality.

Sometimes we encounter hearing aids that successfully process data using artificial intelligence, but this device has not reached that stage yet.

Operation & connectivity

The operation options for hearing aids today are as simple or as complex as anyone would like. The basic functions, of course, run fully automatically. We wanted to know how a user can access the flow+ 10 IIC beyond that. The simplest mode of operation is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This model has one as well. It can be programmed according to preference. Do you want manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for incremental adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional life or hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. Those who wish to keep everything in automatic mode can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. There is no remote control for this model, which we find quite unfortunate.

Voice commands are a fairly new way of operating hearing aids. However, we do not have this option in this model yet. That's not too bad - the main thing is that one can hear well. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap of the finger without having to press a button. This feature, however, has not yet been implemented here.

If you are looking for an app, unfortunately, you will not find one here. The flow+ 10 IIC has to manage without smart operating functions. That point is lost. The smartphone cannot be connected to the hearing aid, as the necessary equipment with a wireless antenna is unfortunately missing.

Simplicity & security

An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its practicality in everyday life. This includes, for example, automated functions as well as robustness and user-friendliness. The first points in the chapter on simplicity are lacking in the flow+ 10 IIC, as it does not have automatic adaptation adjustment. We have to adjust it ourselves until we can manage in the respective hearing situation. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It increases the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This significantly facilitates the adaptation to the new sound.

We regret that the flow+ 10 IIC does not have a rechargeable battery but instead operates with size 10 hearing aid batteries. This is not particularly problematic, but one should remember to carry spare batteries. On the other hand, this hearing aid does not need to be charged daily; it operates for a longer time with a single battery.

Let's take a look at the robustness of the housing and discover the protection class IP 68 in the data sheet. This prevents dust from entering, and water only becomes dangerous after prolonged submersion. Protection against contact is also included.

Extras

Everyone appreciates a few extra features, so let's see if we can find any here: Hansaton has integrated a sound generator that plays some soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can distract from the tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.

A nice feature would be a remote maintenance service, allowing assistance from the hearing professional even when you can't make it to the store. Unfortunately, that isn't available here, so there's no extra point for it.

Some hearing aids can track specific health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately do not have in the flow+ 10 IIC. This Hansaton hearing aid does not have any additional lifestyle options on board. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you don't need that for good hearing. It would have just made the product a bit cooler.
