The Audio Service G5 12 Ida BT in review
This time we tested a discreet hearing aid from the upper price segment. It is the Audio Service G5 12 Ida BT. It is worn in the ear and is designed for mild, moderate, and even severe hearing loss. The position in the front part of the ear canal is due to its design, which also delivers a nice, clear sound.
Hearing comfort
The comfort features determine how pleasant listening is experienced in everyday life. With this hearing aid, solid comfort programming by the audiologist is possible. A classic noise reduction is intended to reduce annoying background noises to a bearable level. In the G5 12 Ida BT, environmental noise is reliably detected but only moderately diminished. We rate the wind management as mediocre here, but it works.
In our test, we also discovered the impulse sound control. Short, cracking noises are dampened by this. It works fairly well here, but we are not in the top class. Adaptive microphone systems facilitate spatial hearing. However, you need to get used to the new sound a bit; especially at the beginning, it is not always easy to clearly identify the source of a noise. Anyone who wants a hearing aid with a lot of flexibility will be well served with the G5 12 Ida BT. It has 16 frequency bands, providing excellent adjustment options. The sound can be modified according to individual preferences, even after several years.
An exciting topic in audiology is the use of artificial intelligence, but this is not yet applied in this Audio Service model.

Audio Service G5 12 Ida BT:
Operation & connectivity
The operation options for hearing aids today are as simple or as complex as one would like. The basic functions run fully automatically, of course. We wanted to know how a user can further access the G5 12 Ida BT. First, we discovered a button directly on the hearing aid. This is very practical, as it is the simplest and fastest way to make a change. The volume can be adjusted through it, and different hearing programs can also be activated. If someone prefers not to adjust anything directly at the ear, the button can, of course, be deactivated. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very handy. For us, it is one of the most convenient ways to adjust the hearing aid volume or switch to another hearing program. No one notices, and there’s no need to reach for the ear.
For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids louder or quieter using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Audio Service has not yet implemented this feature in this device. Don’t worry, this feature would be nice but is not essential. There is no control of the hearing aids with a simple tap in this Audio Service model, as it would have required certain sensors in the housing.
An app on the smartphone is meant to make operation easier, and we found one for the G5 12 Ida BT as well. Besides the basic functions like volume and programs, we find a few additional buttons for personalization. The G5 12 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna, allowing us to enjoy binaural phone calls. This even gives us an advantage over normal hearing individuals. We find that great and are happy to award points.

Simplicity & security
An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its practicality in everyday life. This includes, for example, automated functions as well as robustness and user-friendliness. Typical hearing situations that everyone experiences in their environment are reliably recognized and adjusted through automatic controls. However, for more specific, recurring needs, one cannot avoid using the manual hearing programs. We give a big plus for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It gradually raises the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This significantly eases the adjustment to the new sound.
We regret that the G5 12 Ida BT does not have a rechargeable battery, but operates with hearing aid batteries size 312. This is not particularly problematic, but one should remember to carry spare batteries. On the other hand, this hearing aid does not need to be charged daily; it lasts longer with a single battery.
We had a carefree everyday life in our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We walked in the rain and then removed the hearing aids with wet hands - no problem at all. However, the water resistance only really applies to fresh, natural water and not to foamy bathwater or saltwater.
Rating Simplicity & security: 2,3
Extras
Before we come to the conclusion, let's take a look at the extras: A special tinnitus program can be programmed upon request in the G5 12 Ida BT. This allows for the generation of stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from the tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and are happy to give extra points.
Online services are becoming increasingly common. There is also often a remote maintenance service for hearing aids. However, Audio Service has not yet included such a feature for its G5 12 Ida BT. Therefore, one must go to the specialist store every time they want to have their hearing aid reprogrammed. No extra points for this.
Some hearing aids can track certain health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately do not have in the G5 12 Ida BT. Other hearing aids already offer a few extended options like a fall alert or reminder functions. We do not find these here, and that's not too dramatic, as the standard hearing functions are still the most important.
Rating Extras: 3,3
Conclusion: Audio Service G5 12 Ida BT
This test device ranks among the lower positions in the overall result and lacks some features. We award it a grade of 4.32. This is acceptable for less demanding listeners, but for a very active lifestyle, we recommend a hearing aid with more extensive comfort features.
