Here with this test device, a solid comfort programming by the acoustician is possible. As in all hearing aids, we also find the typical noise cancellation here. It is designed to reduce monotonous, noisy background sounds to the point where they are no longer so prominent. The G5 12 P HdO has solid noise suppression. There are hearing aids that have a significantly more effective reduction, but this one should suffice for normal requirements.
A rather solid wind management is available in the G5 12 P HdO and should be sufficient for everyday use. There is also a so-called bang filter here. It absorbs short and loud noises a little bit. This is a useful feature, but we would have appreciated a bit more adjustability. Those looking for a hearing aid with more flexibility will find the G5 12 P HdO to be a good choice. It has 16 frequency bands, providing great adjustment options. The sound can be modified according to individual preferences, even after several years. The adjustable microphones help to recognize specific directions and can also assist in noise cancellation, but the room sound was not very natural.
Sometimes we encounter hearing aids that successfully process data with the help of artificial intelligence, but this device has not yet reached that level.

Operation & connectivity
The operating options for hearing aids today are as simple or as complex as anyone would like. The basic functions are, of course, fully automatic. We wanted to know how a user can additionally access the G5 12 P HdO. Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the G5 12 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be disabled if desired. We like the small remote controls, and we found one for this model. This allows for discreet small adjustments to the volume or sound.
We do not yet find the modern form of voice command operation in the G5 12 P HdO. Another option to control the hearing aids is a tap control. For this, you simply tap your fingers on your ear, which in turn triggers a specific function. However, this possibility is not available in this Audio Service device.
It is very convenient to adjust the hearing aids via the app. There is also a free app for the G5 12 P HdO. In our opinion, the range of functions is mediocre but usually sufficient. It's best to try it out in demo mode beforehand. The G5 12 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and allows us to enjoy binaural phone conversations. This even gives us an advantage over normal hearing individuals. We think that's great and are happy to give points.

We are naturally also interested in how quickly one can get used to the G5 12 P RIC and how easy the daily use is. The G5 12 P RIC automatically accesses the most important hearing settings, making daily use easier. However, those who frequently experience changing acoustic environments should have the manual additional programs configured. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually get used to the new hearing impressions.
The G5 12 P RIC is not equipped with a rechargeable battery. It uses a hearing aid battery of size 13, which must be replaced every few days.
The hearing aid has been classified into protection class IP68. This guarantees comprehensive protection against dust ingress. Water also cannot easily damage the hearing aid. Thus, it is well-equipped for outdoor activities where it can get wet and dirty. However, do not go bathing or swimming with the hearing aids. Bath additives or the salt content in seawater can change the composition and ultimately cause damage.

Finally, let's take a quick look at whether there are any extras: Are you one of the tinnitus sufferers? Then you could use the optional tinnitus program in the G5 12 P HdO. Soft, gentle sounds are tuned to your hearing and engage all areas of the inner ear. It's nothing more than a distraction maneuver, and it works surprisingly well. The tinnitus fades into the general noise and is no longer bothersome. This is a simple but effective tool and earns extra points from us.
What about remote maintenance? Such online services save you the trip to the specialist store because you can directly contact an acoustics professional through the app. Unfortunately, we did not find such a service for the G5 12 P HdO. Too bad, that would have been a great additional tool.
This G5 12 variant does not come with sensors, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, daily steps are counted. As mentioned, this hearing aid does not have that function on board. This Audio Service hearing aid does not have any additional lifestyle options. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you don't need that for good hearing. It would have just made the product a bit cooler.
